Utegate is a blow for Turnbull, but if, 18 months out from the next election, asking the PM to resign for misleading Parliament (on the basis of testimony and on the basis of an email that most of the media believed was genuine at the time) blocks his path to the Prime Ministership, then he was probably never going to get there in the first place.

The AWB episode was probably the sorriest corruption episode in Australian history, whether that corruption was known by any minister or not.

My spies tell me that Mal Brough, former Minister for Ab Affairs, is moving to Victoria to take up a safe Federal seat. He is my smokey for the next Liberal PM.

world wide people were knee deep in corruption over the 'oil for food' program, fortunately they recovered some of the data. Kofi Annan's son even took a piece of the pie apparently. Somebody with a brain in Australia should have thought it was odd for Iraq to buy food at well above market rate

People are too proud, at this juncture, to admit they got it wrong in Nov 2007.

    Turnbull >>> Nelson.

It'll pick up again but Rudd will hold onto the same margin he did at the last election, and pick up an extra seat in Queensland due to the redistribution being released in a couple of weeks.

One of the problems for MT is that, much in the mould of Hewson, he doesn't really know politics.

I mean, go back to Utegate. Anybody with any political instincts, knows that if you ever, ever call for the PM to resign, you must be sure you have a damning case. Calling for the PM's resignation is like going 'all in' at a game of Poker (your house, your car, the lot).

The next thing is, when Rudd called that press conference on the Friday night (the story broke Friday afternoon) and denied in front of the whole Canberra Press Gallery that there was an email sent by his office, anybody with any political instincts should have known that Rudd was pretty sure of his case. You don't call a press conference like that after a huge accusation has been made against you and deny that accusation in front of everyone. Turnbull should have known that they'd done a quick sweep of the email system and found nothing. But not Turnbull - he still called for Rudd's head following this categorical denial by Rudd on the Friday night.

And then, last week in Parliament, Turnbull frames the debate as being about 'misleading Parliament'. Whereas, again, anyone with any political instincts would frame it as "Labor looking after their mates" etc.

In summary, MT just has no political instincts. All he has is ambition - which is not enough.

Had a dream last night that Rudd resigned and handed the reigns over to Beazley.

    Was horrible.

Heard an interesting anecdote on the radio last night. Apparently after the last election Keating rang Rudd and spoke about Nelson and Turnbull.

Of Turnbull, he apparently said to Rudd "You need to be aware, he's brilliant".
    "OK"

"You also need to be aware he's persistent, and won't give up at all"

    "Right. That it?"

"No. You should also know the man has absolutely no political judgment at all".

    PJK on the money.
