And now Abbott. This morning he says his comments were great, now he says they were cut and spliced. Which is it Tone? I know someone who was there, and he also said at the meeting "Basically, if you're poor it's because you want to be". What a wonderful nation-builder this man is. And a stunning campaigner.

See, there's nothign to gain politically from making those comments, so like his remarks re Bernie Banton, they really just show what a cast-iron, mean-spirited d*ckhead he is. I mean, he wanted to be a priest?

Abbott and Workchoices: the gifts which keep on giving. To the ALP.
Actually I know people who are friends with him and people who have met him (on charity cycling events etc.) and say that he is the exact opposite.

Which begs the question, why would he say those things?

Just seems very odd to me that he would say those things if he didn't have that streak in him.

Then again, we all probably have that in us, maybe he's just more honest than others in political life.

I don't know I've never met him. Perhaps we are all different in public and private life. Sledger for one is.

Not bad actually. lol

While I've already noted that the focus on unions has been overcooked, 'union bosses' (like Combet, Shorten etc) certainly aren't pro-business that's for sure. People can say what they like about 'evil employers' who apparently are all out to rip off their workers and put them all on AWAs (even though real wages have gone up under Workchoices) but the fact is that small business is the lifeblood of Australia - employing over half of the Australian workforce.

There are other issues too; I think people look at Howard as tougher than Rudd. That sort of base-level psychology in chosing someone is hard to overcome. This election is far from over and will absolutely go down the wire I reckon.

For the record, Libs won't get getting my vote (likely never will) but I think it's too close to call.
Man nobody is more hopeful than me of a Liberal/Coalition win, but it's just not happening, even taking into account your very worthy argument about incumbency.

It's pretty obvious 75% of the posters here at CW are union bosses. That simply isn't balanced and it's not good for CW.

Vote Liberal

In horse racing vernacular, both sides have rounded the final bend and are about to storm home to the finish line.

One of my friends from Uni is running as a senate candidate in this election.

Very nice girl (if a little mis-guided)!

Vote 1 - Larissa.

tbh... University Liberal girls, with their enhanced understanding of batheing and willingness to be impressed by flashy materialism when compared to the lefty ladies, are the only reason I ever understood for displaying an interest in conservative politics...

Can't beat Antony Green on the ABC. Election night wouldn't be the same without him.
