Got a new rifle! (pics inside)
I just got a beautiful piece of history, a nice Springfield 1903 rifle, in virtually perfect condition.
Took it down to the range today and it is absolutely stunning. The penetrating power is good, and though it has a pretty good kick, it still has great balance and handles like a dream. I shot targets at 100yards, and the thing felt awesome. I'm a huge history buff (mainly early roman republic history but all history in general) and I've been looking to get one for a long time. Great thing about the US: just goto the store and walk home with a gun, so I got it before it was sold to someone else. I will post pictures of me target practicing with it soon:

Well this thing served the US military for almost 70 years, including both the World Wars. So the main value of this item is collectors. I certainly wouldn't recommend it unless your main reason was collection, though obviously these things are so damn accurate and so damn reliable that even after a hundred years they'll give plenty of modern rifles a run for their money. I would defiantly use it for hunting and target practice (its actually one of the most accurate rifles too, you can shoot upto 800-1000 yards accurately if you're any good...I mean if its good enough for military snipers...you can rest assured it has A) Accuracy and B) power). Anyway, to actually answer your question, since so many of these were produced, you can find one pretty cheaply. It depends when it was produced (it was still being produced in the 1940s), but you can probably find it for like $100 (compare that with $300-$600 cost of a decent modern rifle). I mean modern rifles will serve you better if you aren't into collecting, but this thing will give many a rifle a run for its money, even now. And unless you're a collector, one sturdy, well made, rifle can pretty must last your whole lifetime, if you take care of it. This thing is beyond sturdy, people still hunt with it after a hundred years. I know someone whose grandfather hunted with this model, gave it to his son, and he hunted it, and now the grandson hunts with it. |

Hunting is a shameful act, IMO.

Damn the gun laws in USA .And damn you Canadians and Pakistan for having so strict gun Laws . Damn you , USA constitution ................
We had to give all the un-licensed guns when Nawaz Sharif passed the law to not to issue license for any more guns and strict penalties (7-10 years prison) for any one found with the illegal weapon in posession !!!!!

Well rifles of today, you can buy a decent one from $250 on up to $2000. It depends on your needs. Of course, you'll end up spending a bit more on cleaning supplies, gun stands, scopes, etc. You don't need any of those (except cleaning supplies, don't buy a gun and forget to clean it...that could be fatal) to start shooting it, so you can just get a nice rifle and then add accessories as you are able. If you eat what you hunt, sure. Killing for the sake of killing would be pretty stupid though. My girlfriend's father hunts deer and other animals and always uses them for food. I'm pretty when he gets too much he'll pass it out amongst family and friends for them to have. Venison meat = beautiful. Good for you as well.
