I think the 20 or so minute reveal was one of the weaker parts because they didn't really give us much of a reason to care about the character that did it. There was some politics that seemed out of place, too. The alt-right, SJW, immigrant stuff? Other than that, I enjoyed it a lot. The actress from Blade Runner and Daniel Craig especially. I want to see more of him outside Bond films.

A basic principle of crafting writing is to show the reader/ viewer the most interesting part of a character's life. The problem with prequels is that this story has already been told, so the prequel is telling a story about something inherently less interesting and that story has a pre determined end point so it can't genuinely surprise you.

I suppose Lucas was trying to reframe this kind of prequel with episode's 1-3, trying to make us sympathise with Anakin and why he turned to the dark side but he didn't have the writing skill (nor did Hayden Christiansen have the acting talent) to pull it off.

A prequel could be good if it reframes the actions of the original story to be something that wasn't contained in the original. Imagine if the prequel framed the rise of the empire as being in response to a greater external threat and that the rebels were simply pawns for an invading force that was destined to wipe it the rest of the galaxy. Or perhaps a prequel to the matrix which slowed the humans as being the bad guys and the enslavement of humanity being done as a way for the machines to preserve the human species (tbf the animatrix dealt with these themes).

Prequels could be great but most of the time they're fan service.

Man it looks so.....bland. And kind of expected.

A serious Ghostbusters is not needed.

Formula One drivers in the 1950s only had a 50% chance of surviving 5 years. SURVIVING. They were insane.

I loved Knives Out. No genre fan here, but this was just so good and funny. "Nazi child masturbating in the bathroom" in a southern drawl ffs? I was dead.

Watched Downsizing the other day on Netflix. I could have done without the Vietnamese Christian missionary lady with a heart of gold but the movie has a great premise and some biting social commentary.

Braven, too, which is a standard order tribute to 80s Commando-style films. Jason Momoa owns this niche and I wish bigtime Hollywood grows bored with him so he can build a legacy out of straight to video action flicks.

I was a bit disappointed with The Irishman. It's OK, but doesn't come close to matching the hype. How any serious critic can rate it as Scorcese's best in decades is beyond me. Sadly, no amount of anti-aging computer trickery can disguise the fact that a supposedly 30/40/50-year old Bobby de Niro is shuffling around in a hunched up 75-year old body. Average, but it'll probably still clean up at the Oscars.

The Killing Ground. Great backwoods brutality from Oz reminiscent of Deliverance and The Hills Have Eyes. Very well-acted with some stunning cinematography from a conceptual perspective.
