It is actually.
Paints Robin as a disgruntled soldier returning from the crusades, who ends up in Nottingham by chance. Discovers a bit amout his past he never knew (Hollywood cliche no 1), finds out he's a natural leader (cliche no 2). Bases itself at the start of King Johns reign (1199 IIRC) but starts to reference the Magna Carta (1215), so Hollywood history lesson there. Despite that, its well acted, and looks nice. Looks to be teeing up for a series. Miles better than the Kevin Costner version (again, another lovely accent)

Personally wasn't that impressed with the new Robin Hood. Its alright but it lacked a bit of fun in it at times. The "merry men" weren't merry for most of the movie and I dont think its got much accuracy with any of the books. I love Russell Crowe and all but I dont know if he makes an ideal Robin. He's just far too serious and pretty much in the 'Gladiator mode' for most of the movie. Also where did those children of the corn types come from and what the heck is their angle?
Honestly enjoyed the cartoon version more where Robin Hood is a fox and Little John is a bear. Far more entertaining and matching towards what the story is supposed to be like. Its probably among the best renditions of Robin Hood around.

Saw "The Tree Of Life"...thought it was awesome. A lot of people bagging it about being overly artistic or pretentious but I didn't get that really. I thought it was wonderfully made, hinting on the existence of us as human beings and our psyche as people. I LOVED the big bang sequence. i thought the child-acting could have been better; they often looked a bit lost. I found out a lot of the acting wasn't precisely cemented with the screenplay/script and that shows; but it also gives it a more natural feel in a way. I loved the mother's speech about the whole way of nature and way of grace.

Smali, if you want to see a good medieval film (late 12th century England), watch 'The Lion in Winter'. It stars Katherine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Anthony Hopkins. Great film with one of the greatest dialogues ever. In fact it's my favourite film of all time. It's about King Henry 2nd and his family during one particular Christmas.

Watched Ryan Gosling's new film Drive. For me this is the film of 2011. I would highly recommend it, it's really amazing. Great acting, music, etc. Gosling should get an Oscar for it.
One thing to note is that it's not an action film. Last edited by Agent Nationaux; 25-09-2011 at 07:50 PM. |
