Maybe. It's only like, fifteen years old though. I can't imagine a whole generation of Americans sat up and thought, "oh my god, they're right, gay people are people too!" They must have found it pretty patronising at the time, too.

Although Americans do have a much better stomach for cheese than we do.

At the time there was a huge stigma surrounding AIDS though, was a similar panic and general fear to probably SARS a couple of years back so in the context of society at the time it's a bigish deal. Been probably a decade since I've seen the movie though, can't remember much about it aside from some of the famous scenes.

I've got it on my Bigpond list, so haven't seen it yet, but apparently Thandie Newton as C. Rice was pretty lame.

    I'm Green

The color of immortality, nature and envy - you are truly a unique person. While clearly the color of nature, you also symbolize rebirth, fertility and hope in the world. On the other side of the spectrum, a natural aptitude to money with green coming to signify money and possibly even *********!

The movie wasn't bad when it was tackling the stigma surrounding AIDS though. Washington had some great lines on it.

It was the character development of Hanks that made me cry with embarrassment. So unsubtle and cliché. The one thing that automatically makes any movie terribad is a scene involving old home movies of the character involved in a grim situation.

I think part of its worth also lies in the delinking of homosexuality and AIDS. There was definitely an almost exclusive association between homosexual activity and AIDS at the time, to the extent of people adopting a "Shouldn't have done the crime if you can't do the time" attitude to homosexuals afflicted with the disease.

Maybe, but that only gives it worth as a piece of social propaganda (albeit for a noble cause). It doesn't give it worth as a piece of art.

I thought it was a nice little movie. Well acted by Denzel Washington. The dialogues were pretty spot on too, not overtly dramatic. It has a rating of 7.6 on IMDB which is about right I would say.

Sorry mate. Just that I've seen far too many of them US teenage movies to last me a lifetime. Would have the childish plot of vengence, a typical "I'm a victim" scene and a full tantrum by the bad girl/boy at the end.

Dont get me wrong though, I quite like Lohan and McAdams
