most reviews I have heard are pretty mixed, lots seem to heap praise on it, but all the others seem to pan it, tbh from looking at the plot synopsis and general trailers etc... I'm not particularly impressed, but hey, not seen it so cant really say.

    Beerfest

Hilarious IMO. Highlight for me was Donald Sutherland's brief cameo, in which he downed three beers. Quality.

    7.5/10

American History X. First film I've considered giving five stars, but ends up with four-and-a-half.

Didnt like the ending personally, too predictable and tried to be shocking in thought provoking, just made me think 'meh, that was a waste of time', give it 8/10 because of that.

Haha, o rly? Without giving too much away for those who haven't seen it, it was more finite and graphic than what I thought would happen.

Just didn't like it. All a bit predictable imo, and the end was quite simply pathetic.

Ironically, it ended up almost being the opposite of what it wanted to be. That both protagonists became objects of sympathy because of their near-miraculous turnarounds of attitudes towards black people almost defies belief whereas who's the real bad guy that everyone walked away from the theater hating? The cold, calculating black guy who knocked off Furlong's character. Notice how Norton's character only killed in the heat of passion which makes it almost defensible that he's let out (despite murdering someone!) when he has his turnaround? Its intentions were very confused and the bad guys were ridiculously cartoonish evil types. If we are to believe those stereotypes, this further shows just how ridiculous it was that Norton's and Furlong's characters could have such amazing changes of heart when you consider where they were at the start of the film.

The turnaround itself by Norton's character was fairly stunning in its effectiveness wasn't it? Geez, if all it took for Norton to realise he'd gone down the wrong path was to be raped in the shower by blokes he thought were his friends, well, there's one new angle on anger-management therapy.

Thought the film was pap, too black-and-white to be reflective of racial reality. That's just a commentary on the story and script, though, because Norton was just brilliant with what he had to work with.

It was a decent enough story, but i found myself getting bored through the whole thing. Was a struggle to get to the end.
