    Best guitar riffs

You can ignore this thread, Matteh. You won't be interested.

This thread is dedicated to stuff you just can't help but play air guitar to - saw something in a music magazine the other day along the same lines. Apparently general concensus is that Sweet Child O' Mine by Gn'Fn'R gets the prize thanks to Slash's heroics, and I've no argument there. Awesome stuff. Special mention in my book must also go to:

    Muse - Plug In Baby
    Muse - Knights Of Cydonia
    Muse - Stockholm Syndrome
    Wolfmother - Woman
Wolfmother - Joker And The Thief
Fall Out Boy - Of All The Gin Joints In All The World
    Audioslave - Cochise
Towers Of London - Air Guitar
    Towers Of London - King
Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
Guns N' Roses - Mr Brownstone
    Guns N' Roses - Don't Damn Me
    The Killers - Mr Brightside
    Eric Clapton - Layla
    Green Day - American Idiot
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down
Blink 182 - All The Small Things
Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name
    The Bravery - Unconditional
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
Foo Fighters - No Way Back
    Foo Fighters - Everlong
    Feeder - Just A Day
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
    Oasis - Some Might Say
    Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Oh, and I never said the song had to be good. Just the riff.

Most of mine will be fairly obvious ones:

    Purple Haze - Hendrix
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
How Soon is Now - The Smiths
Rock and Roll - Led Zep
    Immigrant Song - Led Zep
    Black Dog - Led Zep
    Freebird - Lynard Skynard
    Paranoid - Black Sabbath
    Ace of Spades - Motorhead
    U*Mass - Pixies
    Dissident - Pearl Jam

&, not really a riff, but the chords that open Weather With You by Crowded House are just otherwordly genius.

Can't believe I forgot that. As for Nirvana, I've always thought they were overrated, but Teen Spirit is pretty damn good. I probably heard it too much when I was 13/14, before I got into that kind of stuff, to like it now though. Got bored of it.

    Five more:

What's The Frequency Kenneth - REM
Admiral of The Sea - Nova Mob
(possibly the most insistant riff ever)
    Never Enough - The Cure
    Marquee Moon - Television
    Metal Mickey - Suede

    BYOB pre-chorus riff.
Sreesanth said, "Next ball he was beaten and I said, 'is this the King Charles Lara? Who is this impostor, moving around nervously? I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."

Comfortably Numb had no riff. Also, Child in Time was by Yngwie Malmsteem, I thought?

    I'll add:

    Muse - Citizen Erased
    Muse - Dead Star
    Radiohead - Electioneering
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
    Metallica - Fade to Black
    Metallica - Enter Sandman
    Maximo Park - Grafitti
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy name
    Iron Maiden - The Trooper
    Alter Bridge - Broken Wings
Weezer - Island in the Sun
    Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
    Pearl Jam - Alive
    Coldplay - Yellow
    Bloc Party - Helicopter
Hunters and Collectors - Holy Grail
    RHCP - Under the Bridge
    RHCP - Can't Stop
    AC/DC - Thunderstruck
    AC/DC - Back in Black

Can't think of anymore right now.

Nah, it was Deep Purple, though, it's possible Yngwie did a cover, I suppose.

Incidentally, I'm trying to remember the guitar riff from "Child in Time" anyway, wasn't it more of a keyboard riff?

A dozen or so of some of my faves, off the top of my head:

"Earache My Eye" - Cheech and Chong
    "Stop" - Jane's Addiction
"Deep Kick" - RHCP (a bit cheaty but it's an ingenious mix of riff and soloing - if only Navarro still played like this)
"Rock 'n' Roll is Dead" - Lenny Kravitz
    "Suffragette City" - David Bowie
    "The Ocean" - Led Zeppelin
    "Black Dog" - Led Zep
    "Deuce" - Kiss
"Cult of Personality" - Living Colour
    "Black Night" - Deep Purple
    "4th of July" - Soundgarden
"Fairies Wear Boots" - Black Sabbath

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but BYOB?
