Definitely not fourth in the world - see here (though most of those prices quoted are as of a year ago). Move to Venezuela.

My car broke down in May and I couldn't afford to fix it. It was majorly ****ed! I now use Dad's car to get to school each day, but apart from that I'm walking to the station and catching public transport - If you're willing to organise your day public transport is great. Not only do you not have to worry about traffic (The Brisbane Busway system is pure genious!) you can read, do whatever and you can go to the pub as many times of the week as you like. Plus since I've started walking plenty, I feel a lot fitter.

I'm glad I don't have to pay for petrol, the prices are ridiculous, but if anyone expects the Howard government to give any relief to Australians unless you're unemployed or having a baby then I wouldn't be holding my breath.

On the other side of the spectrum, a natural aptitude to money with green coming to signify money and possibly even *********!

Food will be the next thing taxed, either that or it will be raised from 10% to 50% after a Howard led government will insist they won't do it as an election promise and then go against everything they say like they have each and every election.

Food is exempt from the GST. However if you buy food from a fast food joint or a restaraunt it then becomes a service, as they have prepared the food for you.

GST goes to the state governments, so it doesn't make sense that Howard would push to make it higher especially with all the political fallout it would come with.

I think you'll find some food is exempt from the GST but the rest is not.

Still, I wouldn't put it past him. This is Howard we're talking about.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the GSt goes to the Federal Government to give to the State governments.

Hence the furore over Qld getting more than NSW last year, and Carrs plea...

No you didn't, you said that only fast food is counted in the GST.

If you go to the supermarket, most food will be inclusive of the GST.

General Groceries are Exempted, but not fast food or recreational stuff (ie: snacks) are part of the GST as MisterWrights said..
