Text-Smilies
I've noticed that this forum and another forum I'm a regular at use different smilies. How many people here know of text-smilies such as the below? Do you know any others? I guess people at these forums only really use the graphical smilies, but I was just wonderin'. Anyway, the text-smilies...
xD o_O >_< ;_; ;D =] D= Those are obviously just a few random examples. I wonder why certain groups use 'em and others don't. |

The story behind the origin of the smiley is pretty interesting:

Hahaha. Nice.

It looks like the other ones were "anime" style. I guess that makes sense given that I know a fair amount of people who are into anime at the other board I go to. |

Also, I generally can't think of a smiley that really fits xD. I know one place that created an xD graphical smiley but after seeing in in text for so long, it just looked weird. Let's see if I can find it... Ah, here - - I just think it looks like it's enjoying having something shoved up it's - er, yeah. Anyway, doesn't quite have the right look to it. I think the closest thing to it here would be the laughing smiley. Having used the smiley for my first five or so years on the 'net, old habits die hard - but I try not to use them here, it confuses people.

i agree with the previous point, surely animated smilies are more interesting and make u more of a nerd because it takes a while to find the right one...
