    Desert Island Discs

An oldie and a goodie. Pick five - no cheating and saying "I can't decide". Here are mine (bear in mind my tastes don't include much from outside the last five years or so, as I was either not born yet or just musically clueless when it comes to most stuff before then):

    1. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Fresh, original, catchy, lyrically precise - awesome album.

    2. The Killers - Hot Fuss
Worth buying just for Mr Brightside alone.

    3. Idlewild - Warnings/Promises
Thanks Rich - that's all I have to say about this one.

    4. Green Day - American Idiot
Contains some of my favourite guitar riffs of all time.

    5. Guns 'N' Roses - Greatest Hits
Contains the rest of my favourite guitar riffs of all time.

And before someone says it, yes, I know the last two shouldn't be there. But then, I've always had bad taste.

OK - to make it harder for myself, I'm not gonna take collections...

    1. Tori Amos - Under the Pink
Vocals and piano. Don't need anything else for lovely pieces of music. Plus, I could yell Cornflake Girl over the entire island if I wanted to - we are going to be alone on this desert island, right?.

    2. Tom McRae - Tom McRae
I'd take all three he's published if I could, but I want a bit of variety, and this one is his most poignant.

    3. The Beatles - Help!
Would have taken Let It Be except I'd have way too many soppy ballads then

    4. Vamp - Siste Stikk
Norwegian band that sings in a lovely Rogaland dialect and are obsessed with sailing and water (one of the songs is called "Another song of the ocean"). Probably their best album which I've got, anyway - the others have a few bland songs

    5. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
I bought you mail order / my plain-wrapper baby / your skin is like vinyl / the perfect companion / you float in my new pool / deluxe and delightful / inflatable doll / my role is to serve you / disposable darling / can't throw you away now. Dancable poetry.

2Pac - All Eyez On Me
    Dr. Dre - The Chronic
    Dr. Dre - 2001
    Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
    Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

So many more I could have mentioned, but had to keep it to five... sure Dre's long awaited Detox when released will join the list too.

    Albums, then, I'm assuming.

    The Killers - Hot Fuss
Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree
    Jars of Clay - Truck
Something with Brahms' Lullaby (Piano). Because that is what I believe to be the most beautiful piece of music ever composed. Would also prove the perfect balance to the other music.

Difficult to leave out the goo goo dolls, Bryan Adams and Def Leppard, but oh well.

Ooh, actually, I might consider swapping Alanis for Crowded House - Recurring Dream. Good call, Voltman.

But does a Best Of (Recurring Dream) count as a real album?

Absolutely love that album. Only had it two weeks but if I'd been naming ten albums, it'd probably have been in there.

    Of course it does.

If I couldn't take that one, I wouldn't be taking any Crowded House CD probably (mainly because I don't really know that many of their albums).
