for the last census a radio station tried to get heaps of people to write that their religion was something really weird that i cant remember ... star wars or something, because if a certain amount of people say they are a certain religion then that becomes an official religion of NZ... it was quite funny but i dont think many people did it cos we werent sure if we could get in trouble
life's a gift thats why they call it the present
I'm a Hindu.
hmm.. what kind of Radio Station is that!! :O

I'm atheist. My granny is christian so she made me be baptised, I have always been angry that I was baptised because I see religion as the root of wars, and i dont believe...
i ripped up my baptism certificate a few weeks ago.
note: I am not against people that are religious in anyway, just the way it groups people and pitts them against eachother...
hmm..
Kim, religion is quite a necessary thing. It draws limits about things people should do. Without religion nothing will be immoral. Maybe some people like you could live a normal life without it, but the rest need religion to play atleast a tiny passive role in thier life.
Unfortunately, religion has been used to promote violence and war. But that is misuse, anything good when misused turns bad.
I've got nothing against athiests either. Just that some people might be animals without religion.
But then people can be animals with religion... ie. George Bush and Osama Bin Laden.
There is a perception within a lot of religions that those without religion need 'saving' ... I really don't know why
There are exceptions..

Some people do need 'saving'. As I said some can manage w.o religion while others can't. They need to be saved!
The idea of forcing religions upon people sounds far-fetched but it has happened all over the world throughout history.
The converse was also true in 20th century Soviet Union where the 'Establishment' was the party and any other organisation was considered to be subversive.
It is perfectly true that religion forces a particular moral code on one, but it is arguable as to whether this is a good thing or not since this moral code tends to be for the benefit of the establishment and not for the followers. After all, the whole raison d'etre of the Anglican Church was to allow Henry VIII to get a divorce.
I was a confirmed Christian at 14 but decided when I was 15 that I didn't believe in any deity. Saying that, I do follow a moral code and that can be summed up in just 3 words : "Don't be shi**y".
I believe that morals come from the family and not the religion. Even pack animals have self-imposed rules where action is taken for the benefit of the group before the individual.
Nigel Clough's Black and White Army, beating Forest away with 10 men
I have morals, I have been to church once in my life... i have never read the bible and it is the same for all my moral friends- society builds morals, and i agree with luckyeddie, family is most important.
sure you can gain morals from religion, but you can gain morals from other places too.
The reason religious people think that morals come from religion is because that is where theirs came from. Without religion they are taught anyway.
Anyway... what kind of moral is
"an eye for an eye"
this one doesnt come from religion and it is much more "moral"
"two wrongs dont make a right"
