    will Wilkinson ever recover?

after his 6th comeback was halted after just 5 games for a hernia operation,it is now becoming increasingly likely that Jonny Wilkinson will never be the player he used to be.

    does anyone think he will?

He is average anyway. Hodgson is a better player.

Edit - Ok I will admit he was a pretty good player at the world cup but he isn't an all round first five. Not in the same league as Frederic or Dan Carter.

Merhtens could change a game by himself

I haven't seen Carter do that in a big game yet

So basically you don't think Wilkinson will recover?

Wilkinson is so much better than Hodgson it's not funny. Hodgson's a bench warmer.

I don't think Carter has a big match temperament yet, but he was huge in the Test against England, cutting the English defence to ribbons.

He has the potential to be a lot better. And such first-five experts as Grant Fox already rate him as the best 10 NZ has ever had. Pretty high praise indeed from one of the other first-fives I'd have in my top 5 list for All Black 10.

That list would be (in no particular order):

    Grant Fox
    Andrew Mehrtens
    Daniel Carter
    Mark Nicholls

and any number of candidates for the fifth spot, including:

Ross Brown, Grahame Thorne, Mac Herewini, Nicky Allen (so much promise but died at such an early age) and Earle Kirton.

I dont think Wilko will recover.

I feel pretty sorry for the guy, to go from such a high, as one of the worlds top 3 fly-halves, to pretty much nothing nowadays due to injury.
