    Basically what it means is:
To calculate H given a set value of X, just do: (2x-3)/(x+4)

    If X=-3, then H=(-9)/(1) = -9
    If X=0.5, then H=(-2)/(-4.5) = -0.44 or -4/9
    If X=5, then H=(7)/(9) = 0.78 or 7/9

For the next part, you need (2x-3)/(x+4) to equal three.
Multiplying both sides by (x+4) gives you (2x-3) = 3(x+4)
    Expansion gives 2x-3 = 3x+12
Collecting like terms gives you x=-15

The last part is the easiest. For a fraction to be undefined, the bottom (denominator) has to be zero. So... (x+4) = 0 - and x = -4

What happened to the 3y^2? And where did the 4a come from?

    Step one: Expansion
    81x^4 y^2 a
    ____________

    x^2 a^2 4y^2

    Step two: Cancelling
    81x^2
    ____________

    4a

You have a y^2 in both the top and the bottom, so they cancel, leaving just a 4 on the bottom, which you may as well put in front of the a.

    Ah, Primary School.

Reminds me of the time my class had a cover teacher for RE *mutters something profane about religous schools* and she did something about a Hindu monkey (not sure on the details, remember the monkey though) and we were absaloutely riotous and made paper aeroplanes and just generally talked all the way through her story about the monkey. She never came back

    Ah, Year 2.
    Or something.

No, hence all the words sounding as if something happened ages ago.

I wasn't at school a week ago either

If it was a week ago I'd have said "Hey guys, guess what happened last week!"
