    The music oracle

Want to know all the real important questions in life?

Then take this simple challenge. Basically, put your music player on shuffle, then ask a question. The song title is an answer to that question - obviously kinda cryptic, which is where the fun is, because you now get to interpret it. For each new question, press forward to get another song.

What do you think of me, iTunes?
    Kent - Livräddaren
    - Hm. I save people's life? Well, I can make it easier when I help other people with maths...

Will I have a happy life?
    Don't Stop - Jim Stärk
    - OK, so I won't try to commit suicide. Good advice, that

What do my friends really think of me?
    Still Lost - Tom McRae
    - That one is easy. I'm so out there with maths and cricket that I'm completely lost.

Do people secretly lust after me?
To Let Myself Go - Ane Brun
    - If I dare to be myself, then perhaps...

How can I make myself happy?
    Mid-Life Krysis - Travis
    - Says it all, doesn't it...

What should I do with my life?
    Self-Servin' Society - Paddy Casey
    - Obviously go into some kind of voluntary work.

Why must life be so full of pain?
She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5
    - Mhm. There's love somewhere at the end of the tunnel

    Will I ever have children?
    Pancake - Tori Amos
    - I feel like someone is evading the question...either that, or my wife-to-be will have a very flat, round baby

    Will I die happy?
Spiralling - Antony & The Johnsons
    - That sounds ominous.

Can you give me some advice?
Language of Fools - Tom McRae
    - Yep, but it's in a language no one but businessmen understands

What do you think happiness is?
If You Buy The Blue One - Bertine Zetlitz
    - The full line "If you buy the blue one - you'll get one for free". So drug addiction, then
    Messi scores on the rebound.

Founder of ESAS - Edgar Schiferli, the best associate bowler
A follower of the schools of Machiavelli, Bentham, Locke, Hobbes, Sutcliffe, Bradman, Lindwall, Miller, Hassett and Benaud
Member of JMAS, DMAS, FRAS and RTDAS

    Am I left handed?
    No Suprises - Radiohead.
    Yeah, I probably am.

Would Scallywag have admitted that England were the better side by now?
    No Suprises - Radiohead.
He'd be joining the Nuffy and Sqwerty chorus, I'm sure. Oh, gotta take it off repeat song!

Does Steve Harmison really think his facial hair looks good?
    Melbourne - The Whitlams
Melbourne people tend to hate Sydney-siders, who would call it "designer stubble", so no - Harmison thinks it looks terrible and is just taking the mickey

    This is good fun!

Who is better, Lara or Tendulkar?
    Tiny Dancer - Foo Fighters.
    Gotta be Sachin.

Have I unleashed an unrestrainable monster by beginning the BotB thread?
    Smoke - Eskimo Joe
Where there is smoke, there is fire. Close all the Battle threads, ASAP...

Is the Oracle out of the Matrix a soul singer in a previous life?
    Clocks - Coldplay
Yup, wind the clock back and you'll find that it's true...

Will the next song played on my iPod be sung by The Whitlams?
    Such a **** - The Streets.
    No.

I actually didn't mean that you had to invent new questions, but if you have the creativity to, fire away

I copied your questions, just for ease and as a point of comparison, and I got some good answers.

Will I have a happy life?
"Coattails of a Dead Man" - Primus
I dunno, does this mean being happy is just following the dreams of others? It could also just be a no.

What do my friends really think of me?
    "Treefingers" - Radiohead
Wouldn't have a clue. The song is pretty quiet and doesn't have a lot going on in it, so maybe that says something.

Do people secretly lust after me?
"In The Neighborhood" - Tom Waits
    Sounds like yes to me.

How can I make myself happy?
    "Riot" - Dead Kennedys
Haha, brilliant song to get! Very clear.

What should I do with my life?
    "Tourettes" - Nirvana
    Scream abuse at people, then?

Why must life be so full of pain?
    "Cry" - The Birthday Party
I think it's just paying out the choice of question now...

    Will I ever have children?
"The Carny" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Perhaps this is a yes, and they'll be a pack of freaks?

    Will I die happy?
"I'll Take New York" - Tom Waits
    Very happy song. Definate yes.

Can you give me some advice?
"Get Up, Stand Up" - Bob Marley
Another perfect fit for the question. Good advice, Bob.

What do you think happiness is?
"Whiskey and Wimmen" - John Lee Hooker
    Haha... fair enough.

    And vics...
    Am I left-handed?
    "Leash" - Pearl Jam
I'm err... not sure what this one means.

Would Scallywag have admitted that England were the better side by now?
    "Refuse/Resist" - Sepultura
    Haha... NO.

Does Steve Harmison really think his facial hair looks good?
    "Raining Blood" - Slayer
I'm thinking this one might be a no as well.

Who is better, Lara or Tendulkar?
"The Times They Are A-Changin'" - Bob Dylan
I think this is a clear vote for Lara, given Tendulkars poor form.

Has vic unleased an unrestrainable monster by creating the BoTB thread?
"Wishing The Days Away" - Billy Bragg
    Definate yes here.

Is the Oracle out of the Matrix a soul singer in a previous life?
"He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" - Nina Simone
The choice of a classic gospel number like this has got to be a yes.

Will the next song played on my winamp playlist be a song by The Whitlams?
"The Ghost And The Black Hat" - The Go-Betweens
Looks like no, although it's another Australian alt-rock band.

    Can never beat a pair

    Well, if you insist...

What do you think of me, iTunes?
Middle of Nowhere - Hot Hot Heat
Ah, an ambiguous answer. Not brave enough to say it to my face, eh?

Will I have a happy life?
    Stay Positive - The Streets
Well, if you're telling me to stay positive, then there's probably not much for me to be positive about...

What do my friends really think of me?
    Talk - Coldplay
Maybe they mean I blabber on a little bit. I don't know, I don't consider myself that bad, like compared to others. Maybe it just means that I should ask my friends what they think, but they don't really give me honest feedback, I mean if they were to ask me, I wouldnt be pulling any...oh, I'm going on aren't I?

Do people secretly lust after me?
    My Hero - Foo Fighters
Not so much lust, as respect me as an untouchable God-like figure, I'm sure...

How can I make myself happy?
    Round Here - Counting Crows
Retain the status quo, just live my life bobbing along and don't move on - ever.

What should I do with my life?
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye - David Gray
Well, that'd make a rather boring life. Maybe it's telling me I should be like a door attendant, or a valet parking guy.

Why must life be so full of pain?
    Nighttime - Ben Lee
Because we spend half our lives living in darkness.

    Wow, that's deep stuff, man.

    Will I ever have children?
No Right Angles - Ben Lee
Hmmm, so it won't be simple. Sounds like half-human, half android to me...

    Will I die happy?
This Years Love - David Gray
Probably die as soon as I find my soulmate...great

Can you give me some advice?
Ache For You - Ben Lee
When the going gets tough, fake an injury.

What do you think happiness is?
    Don't Ever - Missy Higgins.
Happiness doesn't exist. Just mind-numbing state for when life is easy.

Fix You was a good one.

So were Naughty Girl and Brain Washing, but man, you need to listen to less Corrs!

Ok. It's a quiet Bank Holiday, so I've had a go:

What do you think of me, iTunes?
    Melody Calls – Doves
Er, I listen to too much music, maybe?

Will I have a happy life?
Fall in a River – Badly drawn Boy
    That can’t be good…..

What do my friends really think of me?
No Promise Have I made – Husker Du
They obviously aren’t telling me the truth, whatever they’re saying

Do people secretly lust after me?
Fishing For A Dream – Turin Brakes
    That’ll be a no, then!

How can I make myself happy?
Going Down – The Stone Roses
Can’t see Arsenal being relegated & that wouldn’t make me happy, so it looks like good news for my GF!!

What should I do with my life?
On An Island With You – Shed Seven
Move to an island with someone? Hmmm.

Why must life be so full of pain?
    Taste – Ride
Er, not sure pain has a taste per se. I’ll try again:
    Helpless – Sugar
The creator God obviously has no control over the pain in our lives.

    Will I ever have children?
    W.M.A – Pearl Jam
Think this stands for either White Male American or White Male A$$hole. So my kids will be boys, white & either American or not nice. Great!

    Will I die happy?
Higher Than The Sun – Primal Scream
I’ll be too out of it to care! Nice one!

Can you give me some advice?
    Country Feedback - REM
Country music sounds better with lots of feedback. Sensible advice for a happier Britain.

What do you think happiness is?
    Private Universe – Crowded House
Happiness is having your own universe. So being God is happiness. Something to aspire to!

    Am I left handed?
Maybe The People Would Be The Times Or Between Clark And Hilldale – Love
I’ll take that as a no.

Would Scallywag have admitted that England were the better side by now?
All Tomorrow’s Parties – The Velvet Underground
He will tomorrow & we’ll be so chuffed we have a party. Fair dos.

Does Steve Harmison really think his facial hair looks good?
    Liliac Wine – Jeff Buckley
He was obviously drunk on home-brew when he grew it.

Who is better, Lara or Tendulkar?
    Negative Creep – Nirvana
Presume that’s Sachin. Harsh calling him a creep tho.

Has Vic unleashed an unrestrainable monster by beginning the BotB thread?
    Ghost Town – The Specials
If they aren’t stopped soon CW will be a Ghost Town! Ooer!

Is the Oracle out of the Matrix a soul singer in a previous life?
    LA Woman – The Doors
Yes & she’s from LA too.

Will the next song played on my iPod be sung by The Whitlams?
    Paranoid – Black Sabbath
I’m clearly worrying for no reason as I have no songs by them on my music player.

Here we go then, should be interesting!

Will I have a happy life?
    "Mother's Day" - Nada Surf
Mother's Day is usually a happy day isn't it? So, yes I will.

What do my friends really think of me?
    "Red, Red Wine" - UB40
Well, they probably think I should start drinking alcohol (I'm tee-total)...

Do people secretly lust after me?
    "Kamikaze" - PJ Harvey
Hmm, a song featuring lyrics about women kamikaze pilots? I think so!

How can I make myself happy?
"Move Ya Loin'" - Roots Manuva
Well, with the reference to the sexual organs, need I say more?

What should I do with my life?
    "Obstacle 1" - Interpol
I guess I must face and overcome the obstacles that life throws up?

Why must life be so full of pain?
    "Not Even Jail" - Interpol
I don't know but I wouldn't want to experience the 'pain' that guys recieve in jail.

    Will I ever have children?
"Police & Thieves" - The Clash
I'll take that as a yes, and they will be a mixture of the law abiding citizens and just plain thugs.

    Will I die happy?
"The Way You Are" - Lighthouse Family
I think that's a yes. If you are happy with the way you are, then you have nothing to fear in death.

Can you give me some advice?
"Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) - George Harrison
Give love and spread peace, good stuff.

Groovy song, persoanlly I don't think it suits him so NO!

Who is better, Lara or Tendulkar?
"Late Nineties Bedroom Rock For The Missionaries '" - Broken Social Scene

    "She's A Sensation" - Ramones
I think this is a yes, it is a most sensational thread though.
