Hand over the cash or place it on the counter

Let's say you are purchasing something, ie at McDonalds. When the time comes to pay do you place the money on the counter or hand the money to them?

Assuming they're waiting for the money of course.

I say you should always hand it to them, I personally consider anything else rude.

    Opinions?

Always hand it over. Unless they've been rude.

Are you being serious? Or taking the **** out of me for bringing up such a trivial issue?

    Cuz I seriously can't tell.

    If you're being serious. Why?

I've never bothered to think about what I do. I think I usually leave it on the counter

YES. As somebody who spent a large chunk of their early working life in the retail industry, I couldn't agree more. There's nothing more annoying (actually, there are a few things, but what the hell...) than people putting their money on the counter, when your hand is outstretched.

After a few years, I found a good solution - when somebody did it for the first time, I slapped them across the face, hard. Actually, it didn't solve anything - most people didn't come back, and if they did, it was usually with four friends and knuckledusters. But it made me feel righteous.

KFC actually... The worst I reckon is when people throw their money at you.. Literally.. Don't know how I'd manage without my finely tuned fielding abilities..

But I've always wanted to understand the rationale behind the "throwing money" people. I seriously feel like reaching across and give em one across the face. They deserve it.

Btw.. most likely they are having a pretty shizz day.. or they have absolutely no manners and respect or they are in some kind of emergency like their wife is in labour and they just stopped by to get a quick feed..

But otherwise there is no reason to throw money at all.. But as for placing it.. i used to work in a supermarket before.. and some customers dig through so much cash through their wallets/purses , its better off that they keep whatever money they can find on the counter rather than holding it and fumbling it etc to reach the total amount they have to pay..

I generally hand it to the person but I never thought about it. Maybe those who throw haven't thought about how rude they are either?
