Most of us watch movies made in Hollywood and we dont get to hear much about movies made in other countries. In India we have a huge movie industry churning out 100s of movies every year in atleast 20 different languages.
What about movies made in your country, have you ever watched one ? If yes, how do you like them ? Have you watched movies made in another language or a country other than Holywood ? Me, I love Indian movies. I think we make great movies, they are different from rest of the world, have great music, great colour and over all great value for the buck. In my small town I could watch a movie for as low as 10 Indian rupees (which is about 25 US cents). |

We make some pretty good movies - but some of them are quite NZ-specific. Some good NZ movies of the last 30 years or so:
Once Were Warriors Came a Hot Friday Goodbye Pork Pie Stickmen Braindead The Piano Scarfies

there are great indian directors, music directors and actors who have their own individual style and dare to be original, but the sad fact is that a major percentage of indian movies is really crappy....i can reasonably enjoy a movie that doesn't have much depth if it is well-made...but except for a few directors, very few of them give any attention to detail....melodramatic masala is the order of the day and good movies are the exceptions....

Haha yeah Peter Jackson's early splatter films were great. I'll never forget seeing Bad Taste - we got it out on video when some Aussie friends were over. They couldn't believe this was the guy that did LOTR. Absolutely hilarious.

I've never seen Meet the Feebles but I've heard its pretty good.
From Bad Taste: "I'm a Derek, and Dereks dont run!" In Braindead: (Father McGruder): "I kick *** for the lord!!" Last edited by Sir Redman; 03-06-2005 at 10:22 PM. |

It was only a telemovie, but "After The Deluge" was better than anything you'll see in a movie theatre by an Australian these days.
Sanz, there has been much outcry in Australia about the ever worsening state of our film industry. It doesn't help that it's probably been about 5 years since an Australian film got a good review from anyone. They could at least lie to get people through the doors, get them making some money... |
