Music That You Associate With Segments of Your Life

OK, I know that we have enough music threads at the moment, but this'll only last a little while. Just thinking maybe we could share some music that reminds each of us of certain times in our lives.

    To get the ball rolling...

    Any Mars Volta Song
Of a night we streaked, drank, got hold of some of "Liam's produce" , and sat in our mate's car listening to the half hour wonders of this band.

    Coldplay - Warning Sign
A trip to Port Fairy Folk Festival, where there was cheap Guinness, live music and heaps of old friends, and we wrote ourselves off to the highest class all long weekend.

    Counting Crows - Colorblind/Jebediah - Harpoon/Coldplay - The Scientist/Ben Folds - Fred Jones Part 2
Of 2003, without doubt the low point of my 18 years. These songs are always accompanied by solemness and introspection.

    Athlete - Wires/Athlete - Tourist
Discovering this band coincided (not caused, well as far as I know anyway) with me becoming a more open person.

She's Got Issues - The Offspring

At least what I think that's the name of the song. My bitch ex-girlfriend slept with (who I thought was my) best friend on new year's eve. I started listening to that album just after that, that is why I particuly like this song.

Let It Be - The Beatles

When ever I feel sadness or depressed or angry, these three words just sooth my soul.

God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You - Kiss

Whenever I hear crap music this song reminds of what music is supposed to be - Rock 'n' roll.

    I'm Green

The color of immortality, nature and envy - you are truly a unique person. While clearly the color of nature, you also symbolize rebirth, fertility and hope in the world. On the other side of the spectrum, a natural aptitude to money with green coming to signify money and possibly even *********!

Greenday- Macy's Day Parade or Time of Your Life (Good Riddance), and John Lennon-Imagine
What I listen to when I feel sad

    Muse- Citizen Erased
When I'm angry. The meaty guitar at the start revs me up, but by the end my moods completely changed

AC/DC- Thunderstruck (or any AC/DC song, really)
When I'm happier and want to hear some good Aussie rock

Blink 182- Going Away to College
Reminds me of my first girlfriend (I don't listen to it that much anymore )

Any other song by Blink 182 or earlier Greenday music
Reminds me of my earlier teen years when I thought Blink 182 was as punk as punk could get

    Mew - Frengers (entire album)

Listened to it through a rainy holiday in Corfu a couple of years ago (must have gone through it 40 times in a day). I can still picture the scene of me lying on the bed with earplugs in listening to that.

Tom McRae - Just Like Blood (again, entire album)

Spent an Easter holiday sitting on a sofa with a computer programming a curling game with this album on repeat. I'll probably never get the memory of that out of my head.

Come Here Boy - Imogen Heap

Reminds me of when my ex first invited me to her place. She played it over the phone as her invitation.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Reminds me that its not irrational to be hopeful. Stops me from becoming a hardcore pessimist. Listen to it very often when I'm in a self-doubting mood, but I listen to it very often anyways.

Also, this song transformed me from being a hobby-oriented guitarist to actually being serious about guitaring, raising my self-esteem by a few notches.

    Coldplay - The Scientist

Reminds me of how being retrospective isn't going to help much. I've felt this more than a couple of times in my life, and I've seen that just letting go is the best option.

    Snow Patrol - Run

I hate this song, it's the most depressing song I've ever heard. Brings back memories of all the people I've had to part with, and the whole day just comes crashing down.

Radiohead - OK Computer (whole album)
Fits the last 6-7 months of my life pretty well. Disappointment, depression, but a glimmer of hope for the future. That's how I interpret the album at least.

    My Childhood:

    Counting Crows - Mr Jones
Crowded House - Weather With You
    George Michael - Faith
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge
Seal - Kiss From A Rose

All these songs hold a special place in my heart as they were the songs I absolutely loved when I was young. All of them are around the 1987-1995 period, and I associate this period as probably the happiest of my life.

Weather With You by Crowded House was such a happy song, and I remember some great family vacations and trips with that song playing in the car. Mr Jones was another song that I loved when I was around 8 years old.

George Michael's 'Faith' had me hooked from the start with that really catchy guitar riff and some brilliant vocals. While Under The Bridge started my appreciation for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Seal's 1995 hit, Kiss From A Rose will also have a really special place in my heart as while I was waiting in the hospital, this song was continously being played on the radio and it was around that time that my younger sister was born.

    2003 up until present

    Matchbox 20 - 3AM
    John Mayer - Clarity
George Michael - His Entire Best of CD
    Coldplay - The Scientist
    Coldplay - High Speed
    Coldplay - Everything's Not Lost
    REM - Leaving New York
