What's your opinion on why Object oriented programming languages never lived up to the hype?

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

Hi! everyone. I've been viewing this forum for a while now and I think in my opinion this is the best place to discuss Cricket mainly because its a neutral one whereas most others forums are specifically related to one team. I'm English living in London of Bangladeshi origin and would be my pleasure to get to know a lot of you guys and discuss about Cricket as time goes on.

All the best guys and have a happy new year coming up

It's not neutral. We hate english people.

How has OOP not lived up to the hype? It's achieved everything it was intended to achieve.

I guess I'd better keep this post on topic: Hi everyone, I'm BeeGee. Long time poster, first time introducer.

it has never lived up to the hype as far as I know. When it was first vogue around 1996 objects were just going to float in the Internet and you would pay a per transaction to use them in your master program. Computer programming divisions would create objects that multiple programmers would all utilise. I don't think it has ever lived up that billing.

I don't know where that came from, but that's not why OOP was developed. OOP was developed to make code maintenance and code evolution easier and more easily understood. Those were it's goals and they were all achieved.

What you call an object, I assume you really mean a class (an object is an instance of a class). 90% of the classes I use on a daily basis have been created by other developers/companies. There are millions of class libraries out there for developers to use.

The fact that OOP is still the industry standard programming paradigm after nearly 30 years (which is a millennium in com sci terms) shows that it has been nothing but a complete success.
