    DVD player

    Okay I have a DVD player of Indian company Philips. The thing is it has no problem playing most DVDs but some dont work on it. And they work all right in other DVD players.

    So what is the way to repair this DVD player which apparently seems to work properly except its ibvous bias against specific DVDs

    And which DVD player would you recomment I buy if I go for the alternative of a new one.. which one do you have and how does it work..

    fixing DVD players is useless unless its something very very basic you may as well get a new one...

    are all of your DVD's u want to play real or are some pirated copies, because some players wont recognise fake discs...

    Some DVDs are recognised and some not among the pirated on my DVD player. Bu tthere seems no problem in other DVD players regarding this.

    good quality dvd players wont play pirated dvds, which is why we have a crappy chinese dvd player here. for real dvds, it could just be that your player just doesnt recognise it for some reason, there's probably not much you can do short of getting a new dvd player...

    it could be the region code of the DVD's your playing, for instance australia is region 4, so your player might not recognize pirated dvds from different regions, much like PAL and NTSC in console games

    Philips is a recognized producer, which means that they might have included a system so as to not play pirated DVDs, few of them, if not all. Has this particular set not worked while playing an original DVD?

    I myself have a cheap American DVD player by CyberHome. No complaints from it.

    Forget the established names like Philips, Onida, Sony etc. My pirated pioneer (although not an obscure name) plays anything. Pirated DVDs in India arent usually region coded anyway, and so I dont think coding is the problem . Its just the inability to recognise pirated discs.

    I dont think CW appericates talking about piracy. So maybe we should stick the discussion to DVD players..

    yup, Pioneer is the name of the company. American(?) company known mainly for car stereo systems.

    2.1 = 2 speakers ( left and right)

    5.1 = 5 amplispeakers ( centre, left front, right front, left rear, right rear )

    7.1 = 7 of that stuff.

    A 5.1 is preferable since it functions as a home theatre system too, and all DVDs (even pirated ones, and even old old movies) are programmed to give a 5+1 speaker sound output.I havent seen a 7.1, and perhaps 7 speakers are unnecessary.

    Of course, if you're getting the cheap stuff (recommended), its preferable to get it form a guy you already know, in order to get defective ones exchanged. I got ours through our electronics repairman. you've got to test all the functions thoroughly.
