It's time, it's that time again...

It's 40+ deg C during days here in Baroda, the humidity is insanely high - I sweat even under a fan, doing nothing.

But you know what makes this infernal season worthwhile? Mangoes. Indian mangoes, especially those grown in Gujarat, are one of the best I've tasted anywhere in the world, and believe me, I've tried them in a fair few countries.

We use mangoes in every way imaginable. Traditionally ripe mangoes, apart from being eaten as fruits, are crushed and dripped to make a thick juice (not like Slice or Maaza), which at my home, is a regular for lunch. The thick juice, called ras, can also be spread in a dish and dried under the sun to form a sort of bread, which too tastes heaven.

Apart from that we also make curry with mangoes put in it, which despite being cherished by most people I know, isn't my favourite mango dish.

And don't even get me started on what we do with unripe mangoes. Pickles of almost 20-25 different sorts made using mangoes as the main ingredient, mangoes put in various dishes like Chaat, Chana Dal etc. Yummy!

Any unusual mango dishes you'd like to share? Or just decalre your taste for the king of fruits?

Man I dont know what is better, 40 Degree C or Desi Mangoes. I am sick of the winter here, it snowed last week. There are so many things you can eat your mango, chutney, pickle, juice, shake, jelly actually I am not going to tell you the rest of those receipes.

Mangoes are brillo. We get them from north WA, where they have weather kind of like you've described.

    I love them simply "hedgehogged".

I like mango slush, especially with the flavour of unripe mango.

If there's one mango item I don't like, I'd say it would be mango ice-cream, or mango milkshake. Wait, those were two. Basically, all mango items involving milk. I don't see how the combination works - fruits and milk. Tastes like dross.
