Meeting Richie

I went to the airport today to pick up my brother and I arrived a little bit early so I decided to get something to eat. I sat down and after five or so minutes I look to my left and see Richie Benaud in his trademark ivory jacket about to sit down at the table next to me. Amazing.

He went up to get something to eat so I pretended that I wanted something else to eat and went up to the counter. I casually said to him ' looks like Aussie have the 3rd test pretty much wrapped up Richie' to which he replied 'Yes it seems that way' then I shoke his hand and got his autograph and then sat back down.

It was incredible seeing him, especially since he lives in Aus and if he was in NZ then you would think he would be in Auckland for the test, and quite funny that not that many people were recoughnising him. Lol just after I spoke to him he decided to put his sunglasses on.. probably to try and stop people from realising who he was.

Nice, I've never met the great man but it would be a fantastic opportunity. Out of interest, what airport were you waiting for your brother in then, if it wasn't Auckland?

Blaze thats awesome.. takes some real guts to walk upto people you only see/hear on TV..

it was the same when i met Danish Kaneria, Mohammad Sami and Hammed in melbourne.. in the end i shook sami and kaneria's hands and gave props to kaneria for bowling real well through the test series and wished them luck and got their autographs..
