    Jerusalem for UK National Anthem!

"And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon englandís mountains green?
And was the holy lamb of god
    On englandís pleasant pastures seen?
    And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was jerusalem builded here
    Amongst these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spear: o clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire.
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
    Till we have built jerusalem
In englandís green and pleasant land"

If there has been a more powerful bit of music written, I haven't heard it.. Possibly the greatest bit of music ever

And so does England.... Land of Hope and Glory.

Still, I don't like any. Whilst I will sing whatever the anthem is with every last drop of breath in my lungs, I would like an non-monarchic, non-religious anthem that pledges itself to the country and nothing else.

    Something like Vindaloo, maybe?

I've just noticed that its always sung with that bit more passion than anything else I've ever heard.. Jerusalem succeeds by avoiding singing solely about a woman nobody cares about any more..

If you wanted to bring out the right wing in me, I'd say every British school should get together and bellow it at least once a week in their assemblies.. Although that would doubtlessly scare the tools too scared to be proud of their country for fear of offending people..

I personally can't stand the thought of reciting some sort of monosyballic trash to show my allegence to my country. Forcing kids to do it comes dangerously close to indoctrination in my view but then I'm probably a decadent anarchist in the eyes of many.

That would impress me. Especially when they play the national anthems at sports events and all the players line up and some put their hand on their heart and sing along. That would be very, very funny.

Jerusalem, the hymn that starts with four questions, the answer to all of which is 'no'

'Copperfield,' said Mr. Micawber, 'farewell! Every happiness and prosperity! If, in the progress of revolving years, I could persuade myself that my blighted destiny had been a warning to you, I should feel that I had not occupied another man's place in existence altogether in vain.

I can explain the first "an" as to the fact that I thought I was going to write "anthem" next and put the adjectives afterwards. What's wrong with country?

I think a real vote should be done on Australia's national anthem, it's horrible imo.

What's wrong with our current anthem, God Save our Team?

Says exactly how I feel @ sporting events. Unless, of course, I've misheard the lyrics....
Cricket Web's 2013/14 Premier League Tipping Champion

    - As featured in The Independent.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."
    - Barney Ronay on Mario Balotelli
