It'll happen in Ireland, the republic's been secularising at an insane rate this past ten years. Religion is a seriously toxic political issue but an incident like this will make it impossible for parliament to avoid.

I'm as contradictory as I can be on this issue.

I am both pro-life, and pro-choice.

It is a woman's decision, and it always should be. If she decides to abort for medical, psychological, circumstantial (rape) or practical reasons, the choice should be supported by caring professionals (medical and psychological).

That said, I believe a fetus carries life from conception, and to destroy that is in some ways ethically/morally wrong. Personally, I could not be a doctor performing the procedure. I also carry with me many years of religious indoctrination (not entirely bad), and still believe many of the fundamentals of Christianity (very low Christology), without being a tosser over it (any more, I hope!)

The problem with most fundamentalists is that they want to shoehorn everything in to a black/white choice. Unfortunately, this life is mostly shades of grey *.

* not the book!

Well, if you believe it's a woman's choice, then you're pro choice . Whether you'd personally do it is another question.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I really hate the term "pro-life". Who the hell is "pro-death"?
