I didn't click on Murphy's link as I expected a Rick Roll.

Good stuff. Wonder why it took so long for them to receive it.

Not aware of the Nobel Committee's sense of timing, I assume?

You mean like awarding a prize to a guy that died, but they didn't know about?

But seriously the physics one was interesting because last year they gave it to the graphene guys. And in terms of fundamental physics, accelerating universe>>>>>>>> graphene. (for me anyway)

The Nobel Committee regularly waits decades to award its prizes.

Edit: Obama's Peace Prize being a notable exception.

In light of recent targeted killings, one gets the feeling that Nobel committee which awarded that one will start to feel a bit uneasy in their seats.

If drones were available at the beginning of WWII, would it have been ok to kill Hitler, prior even to the genocide the Nazi's were to commit?

I've seen a few war ethics theorists pushing the line: 'you should only kill if you are putting your life on the line' , that's clearly nonsensical when you have a dictator who will terrorise millions.

I don't think you can compare the power and influence (and general danger to the world) Awlaki wielded to that of Hitler. Hitler was an elected politician who planned to invade neighbouring countries with a nation's army, Awlaki was a Youtube favourite who funded and/or influenced a few nutcases. If they're equivalent in terms of who should be on a nation's hitlist and with the US having no problem putting one of their citizens on it with no possibility of due-process prosecution, someone like Pam Geller should be next.

Yes, surprising the potential explanation is so silly, though. Would have thought they'd taken the GPS satellite motion into account.

yeah that's a big strange. seems a bit... obvious.

although at times the obvious is so obvious that everyone doesn't bother to check it.
