Thanks for the info LuckyE, always interesting...
I dont think I was talking abour Existentialism. I knew the meaning of Empiricism. Also, I think I confused Locke, he was an empiricist, who tried to find universal rules (Empirical formulas) from observation. And the other movement (actually school of thoguht might be a better word as I dont think it was a movement), was originated by Descartes, who did not want to find the 'truth' from observation as he thought this universe could be an illusion, a dream created by someone, and hence the 'I think therefore I am". Maybe they were called "Idealists", or maybe they werent called anything, and Im just wasting everyone's time But I would try to look it up somewhere.

a question for you science folk...
lots of people say that writing on your skin with pen is really bad for you, is this just a misconception or is it true? i wonder because most people dont take much notice if it is true.

Simple answer - very bad.
Certain chemicals present in fibre-tip and ball-point ink are definitely not good for you. Benzene and phenol can be absorbed subcutaneously (through the skin) - writing on the skin is almost as bad for you as putting the pen in your mouth (and that's either end - the plasticisers in the little bung at the back end can also be toxic). Chew on a pencil instead. The paint is non-toxic, the wood will do you no harm (apart from the methanol which could cause blindness) and the carbon in the 'lead' (graphite) will do you the world of good. |
