Circumcision Debate

Hey guys,

What are your opinions on circumcision? There is a bit of debate occuring in the media as to whether it is a barbaric practice.

Personally, I have no problems from an ethical perspective if someone chooses to be circumcised. However, I can't agree with it being forced upon an unknowing, unconsenting child (my views on baptism and christening are the same).

No real opinion on subject.

Uncropped myself, as I suspect 95% of non-Jewish, non-Muslim Brits are.

From what little I understand being circumcised is more hygienic (no smegma), but one loses sensitivity when....well, you know....

What happened?

I looked at this thread an hour or two ago and James had closed it after one post from Sexithing?

We decided to give it a chance in the outside chance of a reasoned debate and keep it on a short leash as pre-emptive striking really isn't on.

We're watching the subject matter carefully... (don't)

An unconsenting and unknowing infant has no religion of its own choice.

I don't know if it can be called barbaric. But whatever...I don't really have an opinion on it. Though I wonder...if it really serves any purpose?

That's a very open minded and commendable viewpoint. But parents usually bring up their children according to their own religion.

Indeed - which is why I don't think a child should be baptised/circumcised/confirmed/christened/etc until they're old enough to make it as their own choice.
