Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
Its easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for the day

Imagine there's no country
It isnt hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say i am dreamer
But i am not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Imagine no posessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say i am a dreamer
But i am not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

A tribute to the greatest visionary musician of the last century on his 24th death aniversary.
We can still imagine and we still remember.

imagine a world where people aren't judged by the colour their skin, but the content of their character. our brother martin luther king jnr imagined it. now c'mon gang, that's make it a reality. btw this post is a direct response to the shallow hals on this forum and their immatureness when it comes to girls

A quick poll:

1. Who wants world peace?
OK, everyone, good.

2. Who is prepared to give up their nationhood?

3. Who is prepared to give up their religion?

4. Who is prepared to give up their possessions?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Wonderful song, sadly not going to become a reality for the three reasons aforementioned. Unfortunate that the greatest obstacles to peace (in Lennon's mind at least) are those things which many people are most reluctant to give up.

Some people (like me atleast) does want this world to be 'one country' with 'one religion' for which I could indeed sacrifice religion n country.

But I do believe posessions are necessary to enjoy life.. little pleasures like when Gerrard scored Liverpool's third yesterday..

Ad these joys ont harm world peace. We just shouldnt be like if its not there we will die. Its very difficult but not impossible.

And we can hope atleast.

me.
I am a citizen of a particular country only because of travelling requirements (cant exactly travel if i am not a citizen of nowhere) and residency requirements( cant stay in any country outside of a detention cell if you are a citizen of nowhere). But if some authority issues a 'world passport', i would take it.

Me. I have already given up and given up on religion.

Me, to an extent.
I live a middle class existance and am happy with it.... i am not particularly motivated to earn millions or own massive chunks of land etc...

Fair enough. I guess you can either be cynical or idealistic, though I for one am finding the latter increasingly difficult.

Not really. If you were to merely give up your nationality presumably you would be required to take up another one, or else live a lonely life in international waters. To give up nationhood would be to eradicate the system of nationality altogether - as Lennon says, imagine there's no country (or countries). I probably phrased it poorly but this is what i meant - basically my contention is that most people aren't prepared to set aside differences and accept a universal nationality or no nationality altogether.

John Lennon is a genius and Imagine has to be one of the most famous songs of all time. Brilliant song no doubt, but a bit too idealistic for my liking. Still, the point is to be idealistic, so full credit for pulling it off nicely.
