Newt Gingrich has replaced his campaign manager and is laying off one-third of his staff, but has vowed to continue his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, a spokesman confirms to CNN.

The Iraq war was deeply unpopular by 2004 and the economy was in a recession (after the relative prosperity of the Clinton years). Not only was Bush not popular with the Democrats, he wasn't thought of as a true conservative by his own base. Based on all that, I would say the election was there for the taking and Kerry blew it. The inept response to the swift boat scandal by Kerry undermined his whole campaign and cost him the election IMO.

don't forget katrina as well...kerry just ran a very passive, mostly reactive campaign and you can't afford to do that against an amoral slimebag like karl rowe...

Pretty surprised Cribb is gunning for this version of the Republicans, even though he agrees with their fiscal policy.

Apart from Mitt "Anything to get me votes" Romney, they're religious nutters, rank and file.

Hard to disagree with that, although whoever wins will have to shuffle towards the centre for the campaign proper.

Haha they definitely wouldn't be my ideal government by any stretch of the imagination; lesser of two evils though.

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

and on the subject of mitt being a commie, Pravda weighs in:

But as the Weekly Standard's Daniel Halper reports, the Russian newspaper Pravda hit back with the sickest burn of all. Sure, Russia would prefer Obama in the White House -- because having Romney in the White House would be like having "a serial paedophile as a kindergarten teacher, a rapist as a janitor at a girls' dormitory or a psychopath with a fixation on knives as a kitchen hand."
