Thought that this was a nice distraction from the election campaign.

What a delicious can of worms they've just opened. Obama must be furious at Clinton who got the issue rolling, and the despicable Saudi royal family must be just plain furious.

Barack Obama 9/11 veto overruled by Congress and Senate, families can sue Saudi Arabia

Washington:* The Saudis might have been spared if this was not an election year in the US, but it was inevitable that Congress would side with the families of the September 11 victims - and that,*when push came to shove, it was Riyadh and President Barack Obama that were thrown under the bus.

In remarkable votes in the Senate and the House - 97-1 and 348-77 respectively - on Wednesday, Mr Obama's veto of a bill that allows the 9/11 families to sue Saudi Arabia for any part it might have played in the attacks was overridden. It is*the first veto override of his presidency.....

Obama has publicly stated how much contempt he has for Saudi Arabia, think he'd be secretly cheerin'

Not enough contempt to not arm their air force whilst they bomb the living daylights out of Yemen though.

He needs to learn something from Trump.. Just say that he doesn't respect anybody because there is nobody else in the world who is fighting for economic and social freedom. Doesn't even need to be true, just needs to be stated confidently.

It should be noted that both Trump and Clinton also answered Angela Merkel to that question. However in Trump's case in the very next sentence he then said he didn't like Merkel any more.

A president's personal opinion doesn't dictate America's foreign policy. Suggesting that Obama is a strong backer of Saudi Arabia is the issue I'm addressing, he's been a vocal detractor. American foreign policy? Not so much. Hopefully Clinton's move means that they will move even further away from that relationship. Saudi Arabia is a shunt.

This is genuinely bewildering tbh. Apparently Obama "failed to communicate potential consequences" of the bill... they wrote! This is proper Veep/Thick Of It territory.
