Stop reading whatever it is that makes you think Sanders is an Internet thing.

He's not solely an internet thing, but he's niche, especially for those who like to lament the choice of establishment candidates when actually there's this guy with socialist policies and if the Dems just gave him a chance he'd wipe the floor with Trump blah blah blah

I'm certain that if Yang doesn't reach top 3 before the last debate and Biden still leads then Yang will step aside and throw his gang to stop Biden i.e. to help Bernie

You're not niche if you change the party discourse to the extent that the establishment candidates are cribbing from your policies.

Bernie is clearly not niche, but he's also not as popular as the internet would have you believe. He's somewhere in the middle.

I think he's had a degree of influence over Democrat candidates' policies recently, but it is as much other candidates trying to steal his voters to boost their own bases through positioning themselves as a stomachable alternative.

Are we talking about "the internet" as a monolith? In many of the circles I'm around or nearby, Bernie isn't popular at all. And I gather the same is true for similar spaces which are more women-dominated online; they like his ideas, but they can't stand him personally.

Perhaps relevant is a better term than popular. I think the right also pay more attention to Bernie online, albeit slagging off his socialist ideologies.

Pretty sure that Bernie stayed in the race with Clinton in spite of needing more than 200% of the remaining delegates to secure the nomination

    His “popularity” is a myth

Wasn't that because super delegates could theoretically change their vote if the tide turned in the primary polls?

It's more because he's old and stubborn. It owned though because #Resistance crew are still mad about it.

TBF to him the fact that he's old and stubborn is the only reason he was in the race at all. Everyone else fell in line.

He's been incredibly influential. The whole primary is people fighting over who can shout his entire policy platform the loudest ffs.
