It’s also more I don’t think people actually understand the extent to which the British especially, with help from the French, and then the Americans, rolled in and quite deliberately handed the place over to basically the Worst People Possible for some of the dumbest reasons possible.

I don't think the Sanders part will happen really. I think this iteration of the Democratic party will be defined by its ineffective efforts to curtail Republican excesses, largely as a result of its inability to fully recognise that the Republican party is essentially an unscrupulous and evil hate group. I prefer the Sanders/Warren wing because I think they're closer to recognising the Republicans for what they are, which I think is more important than their mostly bad economic ideas which would be killed in the Senate and courts anyway. That and their foreign policy is obviously far better, and the President actually controls that a bit.

But I think Biden will probably get the nomination. My vision of the American future is a Democrat party politely and ineffectually asking a Republican boot not to stomp so hard on a Mexican face, forever.
    UC,

Have you seen the alt-right playbook videos? I’m pretty sure you must have but you really should, if you haven’t.

It’s a very satisfying and well made series detailing various tropes within the American Republican party, base and other groups within like internet conservatives. It’s really well researched but presented in as simple a manner as possible. The guy also speaks in this comfortingly monotone analytical voice without using rhetoric or emotion to make his case. It’s great insight porn.

Fair warning: the guy is a self-admitted socialist and can be aggravatingly propogandist (self-admitted again) and lacking in nuance in the bits and pieces that he discusses socialism, considering the level of rigour and intelligence he applies in his critique of conservatism.

Think you’ll enjoy this video in particular:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MAbab8..._HMFtQ&index=8

Cheers, I’ll definitely give those a watch.

Your critique is exactly how I felt about Elizabeth Sandifer’s book on the alt-right. When she’s tearing down stuff it’s great, really funny and insightful, but she occasionally veers into expressing her own half-baked Marxist worldview and then it’s not so good.

Neither of them are a pimple on a major candidate. They, like most of the other candidates, are wasting everyone's money and time by not dropping out.

There is, at most, 5 candidates who are making any real impact on the primary race.
Biden is the clear leader, not a winning lead or anything like that but he is winning all the polls and should be considered the favourite.
Sanders has a strong base but his big challenge, and one I do not think he will overcome, is moving beyond his base to gain fair more wide spread support
Warren looks to be the strongest challenge to Biden
Harris is fading in the polls after he boost from battling with Biden in the first debates and I am not sure she can really challenge for the nomination
Buttigieg is clearly fifth and perhaps does not deserve to be included with the other four.

The rest should just get out of the way, perhaps Buttigieg should as well.

I just don’t know with Biden. All the “fundamentals” - party support, polling, name recognition, ideological appeal to the broadest section of the electorate - are in his favour, in some cases prohibitively so. But then you look at the bloke himself, and some of the stuff he says/does, and you just go “really?”.

If one of Sanders or Warren wins Iowa, then that’ll seriously signal that It’s On. If I were betting, I’d strongly be tempted to back Warren at this stage.

And if we can all see it, Trump is well aware of it. His claim 'sleepy joe looks like he's lost his fast ball' pretty much summed up how he will approach him as an opponent.

It really can't help that Biden and sanders would both be turning 80 during the next presidential term. Plenty of mileage there for their opponents, and justifiably so actually. Warren may eventually be the best bet, despite widespread misogyny over the pond.

Thinking about events not mentioned in the article, it points to:

    1) Jordan Petersons appeal to the alt-right is his strong advocacy of the 'biological' differences between men and women as modern alt right racism is about "science". He's lack of philosophical grounding has also seen him trip up many times when trying to explain why monogamous marriage is 'better', but also a key narrative of these movements.

    2) also how Milo was such a phenomena online initially (Whilst colluding with white supremacists in the background as buzzfeed uncovered) but able to get away with calling feminism cancer as it's not as taboo a subject (helped by years of conservative tv indoctrination), which became the thin edge of the wedge for racists to enter the mainstream conversation via republicans e.g. Trump.

for the Christchurch shooter, the threat came from Muslims
I said this before, but the idea that a guy could consider a country in the South Pacific to be having its European-descended majority (!!!, ever think how that happened mate?) usurped by Muslims (er...is even 3% of the country Muslims....where is this invasion coming from?) is one of the most bizarre thoughts and frankly hasn't been called out enough.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-z...e-officer.html

The person who said "go back to your country" in this specific example can legitimately say it without being racist (it's still probably xenophobic) - specifically because she could be talking to any non-indigenous NZer (although she was probably still being racist because I don't think she said it to any other policemen).

What the "disaffected" white nationalist needs to realise is that the invasion already happened, and that they are the invader.

Not in the weird self-flagellating way of the buzzfeed male who is just sickeningly *****. But just straight up acknowledgement of some basic realities - you have it really, really well off compared to 99% of the rest of the world. You were probably part of the British or Dutch or Portuguese empire that at some point that ruthlessly exploited the rest of the world to the point where the Queen holds India's crown jewel in her scepter, 100% of the North and South America belongs to the supposedly marginilised Western culture (completely annihilating the Native Americans), the Middle East has been divided up arbitrarily, Africa is a complete mess, and China is still recovering from being forcibly addicted to opium.

And the less said about Australia the better.

It’s amazing to see the mental gymnastics in display in the WN types who simultaneously are racist towards Georgians, Iranians, Dagestanis etc (who are actually from the geographic caucus regions) in contrast to their obsession with race purity, ‘Aryan’ blood and the ‘Caucasian’ race.

The minority rule (as Taleb uses it) does seem to apply to the world more than people here think they do. Obviously, minority here refers to any minority taste and not dependent on race, gender etc.

Also very few of those who identify themselves as members of the master race aren't exactly the most impressive of specimens.

Epstein killed himself last night, no tears will be shed as clearly a scumbag, but very surprised someone with so much dirt on powerful people lasted so long.
