Well there's been more than one "Green New Deal" proposal -- Jill Stein ran on one in 2016 for example -- but I think when people talk about the Green New Deal rather than merely a Green New Deal, they're referring to AOC's specific policy document that has been widely endorsed by other Democrats.

I'm trying to be as nice as I can with this, but outside of B'Ham and Montgomery, Alabama is as about as close to a feudal society as you can get in a modern 1st world country. The vast majority of people are seriously, desperately poor or surrounded by people who are seriously, desperately poor (and are thus immersed in their way of life), with all the power and wealth being locked up in long-established wealthy landholders with massive estates.

Like, when people are excited about an ice cream shop opening, you know things are pretty desperate.

are you trying to place their barbaric abortion law in context?

Yep. S'all about power. Also indirectly explains why the evangelical churches remain so powerful in the state - these poor sods have very little else to turn to.

It's to do with the law passed in Alabama.

But it's just a ****ing brilliant cartoon, which is primarily why I posted it.

The elephant in the room is how girls will have to deal with unwanted pregnancies in Alabama.

As much as this is about abortion in Alabama and the poor women who will have to suffer the consequences. This is politics and an attempt to get Roe vs Wade overturned. They have admitted that they expect this will be overturned in all the lower courts and want it to get to the supreme court asap.

I actually want to do this. Mainly because of the John Denver song. But everyone tells me it is awful, which is a shame.
