Trump said yesterday, "My whole life, I've heard you're innocent until proven guilty. But now you're guilty until proven innocent. I say that it's a very scary time for young men in America."

So, what about the Central Park Five?

He's a hypocrite. But what about the (unquestionably large) cross section of people who think he was wrong to condemn the Central Park Five while baying for the blood of Kavanaugh?

No one is good at having standards about this stuff.

Yeah, ditto for this and people who believe in the innocence of people like Adnan Syed and Steven Avery.

You’re conflating not wanting someone to become a Supreme Court Justice pending the investigation of credible sexual assault claims with wanting someone executed.

One thing it has done is lead to a surge in interest of Republican voting women. 12% more engaged in the mid terms than 2 month ago. Democrats voting women basically unmoved, men up 15%.

Zilch interest from independents. Says it all really.

So people are good at having consistent standards about what kinds of evidence they use to judge others? Because that was pretty clearly my point.

Trump's a broken clock, but he's right in this.

There is no consistent standard even in law.... people just like to think that because the criminal justice system requires a high standard due to the potential high consequences. Most judgment is made on a credibility basis, even in our day to day life.

Almost as if different responses require different burdens of proof.

So Ben Sasse after his big speech the other night, does he actually show some courage and vote no on Kav or does he back down ?

Oh ok. So innocent unless the mob thinks the punishment is fair then?

I mean, it's not a "punishment". If someone has been credibly accused of child abuse, but hasn't yet been legally tried for it, you don't typically hire them as a babysitter. That's not because you're "punishing" them.

From what I seen today, seems like a done deal, Collins from all accounts happy enough with the investigation. Sasse will back down as he always does anyhow.

Credit to Heidi Heitkamp, even if you think Kav is innocent, brave to vote no in serious Trump territory, finishes her off for November but got to do what you feel is right.

Sasse there is conflicting reports, likely he will buckle along with Collins and then try and redeem himself by some rather hollow tweets condemning Trump etc. Flake, Mc Cain etc made serious hay out of "opposing " Trump and voting nearly all the time with him lets not forget.
