Morrison is a shrewd operator and trying to make politics as invisible as possible is more evidence of that. Probably the best thing he could do for quite a while.

Very sad to hear of the passing o Graham Freudenberg, a quiet giant of Austrlaian politics who was at the centre of the Whitlam govt as Gough's speechwriter. Terrific writer, author and historian. Vale.

As I understand it, the same governments which are tough on border protection, have been fast tracking visas for Chinese high rollers to come to Melbourne's Crown Casino. There are also allegations of money laundering etc, but I mean, it's a casino so I'm sure that does happen. Basically, it seems that at best Crown reached an arrangement with State and Federal Govts that they'd turn a blind eye to a lot of dodgy practices, including a brothel owner who's been investigated for *** trafficking being involved in getting gamblers tot he joint as well.

It's almost accepted practice in Australia that casinos get a special deal. It's blatantly wrong and arguably corrupt, but it happens not just with Crown - when they brought the lock out laws in Sydney so you couldn't get in anywhere after 1am in parts of the CBD because a couple of people got bashed and killed in drunken attacks, they of course exempted the casino from the laws, despite it having more people tossed for drunken, violent behaviour than anywhere else. The reason, of course, is they derive revenue from the casino's takings.

As for specific allegations of govt involvement or corruption in this particular scandal, draw your own conclusions - they voted down an attempt by independent MPs to set up a parliamentary inquiry into it just yesterday. By "they", I mean both major Parties.

I should say, I don't know about the truth to the specific Crown allegations, though I may hear more about them in the next month or so from a source who's as well placed as it's possible to be. Though how much he will be able to tell us, I do not know.

Apparently said high rollers have a private ranch where complete novices in firearms go around shooting native wildlife, because lol we're rich **** you. Pleasant lot.

The noveau riche are everywhere and always obnoxious, and the Chinese generation of said nouveau riche are doing a fine job of proving that in the absolute.

lol there's a CPAC in Australia. FMD these ****s just want us to be the 51st State, don't they? It's a level of cultural and political cringe which makes Menzies seem positively independent by nature.

I guess this is why the feds don’t want an ICAC.

It has been good free advertising for ALDI though. That’s how the rich get richer, shopping on a budget.

Liu surely gone by next week, not because she should have to denounce China's activities any more than the "Muslim leaders must denounce" crap we always here, but because she hasn't disclosed her membershiop of these Chinese govt aligned groups. She's an embarrassment to Morrison , and that gives him the excuse to rissole her.

Love how all this **** about her activities on WeChat are being breathlessly reported like it's new. Anyway, even he dis-endorses her, I suppose she sits as an independent backbencher, though there's some suggestion she may fall foul of section 44 anyway, though that argument seems a tad tenuous to me at this stage.

The Murdoch press will probably run dead on the story though.

The only thing worse than foreign interference on the right is the opposition getting in power.
