Nuclear power is literally the only thing on that list that isn't completely batshit insane.

I don’t know that that’s how it works. I think if you want to implement a change, you make the case for it.

    So, fire away.

Not a great week for Shorten. Getting costings muddled make him look unprepared. There's a decent enough buffer in the 2pp though.

Surely we can all come together on a debt ceiling.

I'm not a fan of hard caps purely because you end up with the painfully tedious 'raise the debt ceiling' shitfights whenever someone gets close to it. I'm not sure it really does a whole lot to actually control debt levels.
Prince EWS and Justo like this.

Turns out the guys behind all of Palmers meme adds from last year are neo-nazis now working for Fraser Anning. Let’s hope PUP doesn’t win a seat.

Really surprised at the Libs opening themselves up on nuclear power like this. That's not the sort of thing you do casually; politically the chances of it backfiring are enormous.

Can’t believe that anyone would be stupid enough to vote PUP

In 2007, one of the ALP’s most effective ads against Howard came after he’d raised the prospect of nuclear power. Was very cleverly done. I’m sure the same format will get a run again this time.

It's a shame because I think SMR's could potentially be a very useful thing to pursue, but this **** needs so much care and work - and, above all, time - put into it if it's going to be pulled off. Thought bubbles and you immediately get "radioactive waste in your backyard!" scare campaigns up and running.

How good is at that over 98% of eligible voters are registered? Apparently the most since federation.

Libs are really going to regret that non-binding postal survey which motivated so many young people to enrol.

IMO to pursure nuclear power you have to do it during the middle of parliament while the government is popular. As there's a lot of political capital you have to spend to go for it.

This is why I think longer terms are probably better, as it allows for bigger policies that might otherwise be unpopular become more popular.

Barnaby Joyce with a genuine Thick of It interview on RN this arvo. Made Kelly O’Dwyer on Insiders last year look run-of-the-mill.
