Melissa Parke having to resign for criticising Israel shows you how tight labor is this campaign, and how they wonít let anything stop them from getting on with winning.

Ftr, imo something absolutely has to be done about Israel being the ultimate sacred cow.

Yeah. It's disciplined and I understand them not wanting a distraction like that. But those comments absolutely should not be enough to boot you from an election.

Agreed, I get why she was pressured to resign given the circumstances, but it's a tad disappointing given the remarks were more of the anti-Israel kind than the anti-Semitic one.

I don't like how many left-wingers talk about Israel, but the frenzied insanity that has been the reaction to even the slightest critique of Israel in the last few months has been completely completely absurd

It's the kind of topic you don't want to speak about publicly unless you have your facts straight.

Another thing is their situation has similarities with Australia. The land was occupied by the British and the native people denied any rights. To admit fault on their part, we would really have to come back full circle and question the validity of modern Australia.

I have to disagree with other forum members here. I feel like Melissa Parke withdrawing her nomination is a larger distraction than her comments about Israel would have been.

It might play out well in Melbourne Ports, though.

That's a very superficial comparison imo

Some backroom diplomacy and terrible mismanagement post ww1 as well as the holocaust led to the mess we have today.

In any case, what state do you revert back to if you decide modern Australia is no longer valid?

In all likelihood, a comprehensive treaty, or a change of government over to something where Aboriginal elders play the role the Queen does today. In both cases the country is more or less the same as it was before.

Five weeks to go, but Shorten looks a winner doesnít he? Very confident and across his stuff. Happy to concede Iím biased as it gets, but the difference between him in 2016 and now is massive.

Shorten and Labor should win this election easily, they should have quite a large majority after the election.

Couple of points on those numbers - firstly, according to noted psephologists Dr Kevin Bonham & William Bowe, this is very close to a 53:47 result. Secondlt, I realise it's only one poll, but it seems the fall in the ON vote (which is to be welcomed) is splitting pretty evenly between LNP and Labor which, if it is the case, makes things a bit awkward for Newspoll, which has been allocating ON preferences about 70:30 or even 80:20 the LNP's way in its modelling.

If the ALP primary is the same as the Coalition primary then yeah I'd be surprised if it were as narrow as 52-48.
