    SA weren't some infallible batting Gods at home. As has been pointed out, they were rolled over at home by the might of Sreesanth, Dartbhajan, Andrew McDonald/Siddle, Onions, Herath etc to lose multiple Tests in their golden era.

    He bowled arguably his best ever spell on a Brisbane road in 2006 Ashes. I'm quite fond of posting this YouTube video, masterclass in hitting one crack that was misbehaving on an otherwise flat wicket.

    He's so stupid on this "no sympathy with batsmen who don't play a shot". Erm, the reason he left it was it wasn't hitting the stumps. He'd probably do cartwheels to defend Kohli every time he gets out snicking one because he can't watch five balls go past him outside the off stump.

    Gilchrist averaged 30 in his last 28 Tests (reasonable but a bit below par for a keeper batsman). In his first 68 Tests he averaged 55.65 with 15 hundreds and 20 fifties. Probably batted up the order for some matches but that's insane output.

    There is a big gap between Gilchrist and Dhoni as Test batsmen which the other formats, captaincy etc don't compensate. Dhoni wasn't a great Test captain anyway. Gilchrist was also a better Test keeper. Gilchrist was prone to early dismissals when facing spin in Asia, very rocks and diamonds...

    I think Leach is a very good spinner and Mo's retirement will solve a selection headache for England. Expecting Leach to be given a run and make the spot his own.

    Yes, but he has some bad holes in his record vs SA/WI (which is also mirrored by his poor record in Australia, SA, NZ in ODIs) so maybe he had the same technical deficiencies which Sehwag did.

    Sehwag yes - Hayden got dropped sometime in the mid 90s after facing Ambrose et al and couldn't get back into that batting lineup until around 2000. He was smashing it in Sheffield Shield by all accounts and had to displace superior competition.

    Champions Trophy final in 2013 was an ATG choke. Especially those junk balls by Ishant getting wickets after the first couple of deliveries disappeared :laugh:
