    This could sound controversial but...

I think if Hussey was made to open permanently he'd pretty soon establish himself as the no.1 opener in the world. It's not like he hasn't played there before and his technique is rock solid.

    This could sound controversial but...

This is true. Australia won't fall to the depths that WI did simply because they won't let themselves. In Australia sport is very important and money is thrown at it to make sure it succeeds.

    Stupid comment from Slater

yeah...does sound odd seeing he's usually on the money. Don't think the toss had much to do with the result but it was still a good toss to win... Also think if england bat first in Adelaide it could be a good contest. I don't see them falling in a heap again the way they did in the first...

Am I The Only One That Thinks England Will Win The Ashes

Trescothick is also a huge loss to England. He and Strauss can take as much credit for the series win last time as the England bowlers. Cook appears to be capable but who knows what effect the loss of Trescothick has had on Strauss who looks a little out of touch.

    Deja Vu?

What's that mean?....I've seen it mentioned before...Is it a Foot in Mouth award?

    Deja Vu?

Not convinced that Jones would have made THAT much difference....and while I've always maintained that Australia would have retained the Ashes if Hussey played last series I'm not so sure that he turned the game here either.

    Deja Vu?

McGrath takes a bag of wickets in the first test.....wins man of the match........Australia home comfortably. Very familiar. All we need now is for him to step on a ball at Adelaide. Is history going to repeat itself? Will England bounce back? Never thought I'd find myself thinking it but I'm...

Is Freddie the right man for the job?

...captaincy that is. I know I'm not quite in the same league as the man but in my experience as a bowler/captain the last thing I feel like doing during the middle of a long spell on a 40deg day is stand in the infield, setting fields and geeing up the side. I'll take fine leg anyday with a...

Why didn't Ponting enforce the follow on?

oh well..... Looks like Cricket Australia's decision to instruct Ponting not to enforce the follow on ALMOST completely paid off for them A full days play was enjoyed by the capacity crowd on day 4. Only problem was England couldn't last 25 overs on day 5 which means all spectators receive...

Why didn't Ponting enforce the follow on?

It's got nothing to do with wrapping McGrath in cotton wool or letting England bat on a day 4/5 deck. Surely the message came direct from the top: "We've got the ground sold-out for day 4.....let's make sure there IS a day 4"

***Official*** 1st Test at The Gabba

As I said a year ago, that England attack will never be anywhere near as threatening in Australia as they were last year (with or without Jones). Hoggard, for example, in England - World Class swing bowler. In Australia - where the kookaburra doesn't swing - cannon fodder. I always said that...

***Official*** 1st Test at The Gabba

Forget about McGrath, Lee, Clark. They'll bowl well but England will bat well against the seamers on that deck. They aren't the worst batting lineup around and they're all in reasonable nick. The problem for England is Warney. He'll take 10 for the match on that deck and I'm prepared to put my...
