*Official* Double Match Day - NZ v Sri Lanka (27th Sept)

To make it easier for discussion, as suggested by Pratters I've created this thread for discussion on today's NZ v Sri Lanka match.

Go New Zealand.

I'll post more details as the day progresses.

Go New Zealand!

Don't have a lot of hope, bar our seamers knocking the top off Sri Lanka's batting or an individual performance from someone like Guptill. Yes Guptill - Ryder is out of form and McCullum and Taylor have too much responsibility making them fearful. Surely Guptill is due an innings where all his edges and lofted shots land just out of reach of a fielder?

Athlai 27-09-2009 12:48 AM

Ryder is in alright form.

hopefully were playing on the pitch at where the aus v WI game was played yesterday. Has a nice green tinge and the ball was moving about. It could suit the likes of Bond and Tuffey. Otherwise, this is a game I go into with hope but no confidence.

Here are the teams for todays game, note murali dropped! and Jimmy Franklin brought in. SL won toss and chose to field.

New Zealand team
JD Ryder, BB McCullum†, MJ Guptill, LRPL Taylor, GD Elliott, NT Broom, JEC Franklin, DL Vettori*, KD Mills, DR Tuffey, SE Bond

Sri Lanka team
TM Dilshan, ST Jayasuriya, KC Sangakkara*†, DPMD Jayawardene, SHT Kandamby, TT Samaraweera, AD Mathews, KMDN Kulasekara, T Thushara, SL Malinga, BAW Mendis

Sangakkara wins toss and chooses to bowl.

Looks like Franklin is playing for NZ and Murali misses out for Sri Lanka.

Beat me to it.

A green tinge would be good providing we post something competitive first.

Athlai 27-09-2009 01:15 AM

Very pleased with our team.
Very worried about having lost the toss.

straw man 27-09-2009 01:19 AM

awta

A new ball in seaming conditions against our top order first up is a good reason to be nervous.

Days of Grace 27-09-2009 01:20 AM

Very worried too.

If we are not more than 3 wickets down after 15 overs, I would consider that a success.

Athlai 27-09-2009 01:22 AM

Though in all honesty if we bat well we should win this. Our seam attack should be able to do well here, really need around 250 runs.

straw man 27-09-2009 01:28 AM

Yes, our bowling is definitely a strength in general and in these conditions. That 'if we bat well' is a major 'if' though. Agree with DoG's definition of 'success'.

Haha, NZ anthem's lyrics horrendously wrong again.

Zinzan 27-09-2009 01:30 AM
