semi finalists = joke

the competitions pool allocations were done way to soon. i nkow this is an old debate, but.... 3 out of the 4 finalists have played nz in a series this year. nz beat pak 5-1 we beat england 3-0 and WI 4-0. and yet all these teams make it.admitidly we ****ed up something chronic against the ozzies, but lets face it our chances were always slim.

Face it. To win the tournament you need to win against the best, and that's what counts. Even if you'd have an easy draw, you'd still come up against the Aussies in the semi or final...and what does it matter if you finish third or seventh?

why should average teams get through to the higher rounds, and receive a higher amount of money

Wow! How did you guys manage that, considering that 2 of the games against the West Indies were rained out and 1 against England. Are 'no results' code for New Zealand wins?

Sad case of SLS...

Because the "average" teams played well enough to make it there. Boohoo that the superior New Zealand side didn't. 8-)

thought only 1 agisnt the wi was rained out and thought we played each toerh 4 times. we soundly beat both teams 2-0. dont think its a case of sls, one never expected anyother result. just certianlly dont think its right that some teams that are pretty average are in the top 4.

And New Zealand is so FAR superior? 89/7...

Compared to Australia, all teams are average. As Hakon said, get into the final and have a chance of winnings, every team would have always had to beat Australia. New Zealand got its chance and New Zealand failed. If England, Pakistan or the West Indies were able to, you'd begrudge them of that?

Grow up.

Samuel_Vimes 21-09-2004 05:28 AM

And New Zealand, who wasn't even near giving Australia a contest, is not average?

cbuts 21-09-2004 05:31 AM

the points is why ahve a tournament when the best dont reach the end? yes we lost to aussie, yes we got ****ed up. but yes we have ****ed up all the other 3 semi finalists. just shows how big the gulf is between aussies and the rest. the large amount of prze money that we misse dout on due to this draw **** up will ahve effects for nz cirkcet in the future. ur talking about a union that has to scrap tests for odi's due to financial problems

What you're really saying is that it wasn't fair that New Zealand were in Australia's group, and that it should have been anyone else but New Zealand?

And who doesn't, these days? Possibly India, but they're not in the semis either.

cbuts 21-09-2004 05:34 AM

wat im sayins is that the number 1 ranked team should not meet the number 2 or 3 ranked team in the first stage.

cbuts 21-09-2004 05:36 AM

Is there any team apart from Australia and New Zealand you do rate, out of interest?
