Pakistani selectors select their 14 Men Squad for the ICC Champions Trophy
 

Here is the pakistani Squad for both the ICC Champions Trophy and Triangular Series this month in the Netherlands:

Inzamam-ul Haq (captain)
Yousuf Youhana (vice captain)
Imran Farhat
Salman Butt
Yasir Hameed
Younis Khan
Shoaib Malik
Shahid Afridi
Abdul Razzaq
Moin Khan (wicket-keeper)
Mohammad Sami
Shoaib Akhtar
Shabbir Ahmed
Rana Naveedul Hassan


This shows us that there are two new batsmen..
Nazir and Danish Kaneria are kicked for the ICC Trophy, while Afridi and Salman Butt are recalled.
And in my opinion its the right decision to take Salman Butt in since he has performed very well in Pakistan A in the past.
But i'm not happy with the selection of Navedul Hassan, since Umar Gul is a much better bowler..
Of course he isnt in form because of an injury but he can still pick the one or other important wicket, what we havent seen from Navedul Hassan in the past.
Danish Kaneria is for me also a much better player than Navedul Hassan.
Im very shocked with this selection, lets see how he will perform.

Surprised to see no specialist spinners at all.

Knowing how English pitches can break up if August and September are hot and dry (viz Giles and Batty being picked), they seem to have missed a trick there.

I think this should be a signal for everyone that Pakistan will continue to select fast bowlers / or that they will have much more chances than Spinners to come in the team if u look at Danish Kaneria , who is for me one of the best Test Cricket Spinners in the World.

They want the fast bowlers to perform ....And to be honest i couldnt imagine a Pakistani team of more Spinners than fast bowlers...
The Pakistani team is and will select more fast bowlers than spinners..
But maybe you are right...Kaneria as i said it before is for me a much better bowler than Hassan...

AS IF YOU WOULDNT PICK KANERIA??!!!?!?! this is ignorance by the pakistani selectors... seriously i cannot think of a good reason in not picking him.

Has to be Malik's recent success.

Hm, Malik is a great allrounder but it is not allways secure, whether he will perform always on toplevel..and this in every section
You also cant expect this from him since he is an allrounder.
So it is always dangerous to bring allrounder for bowling 20 - 30 over.
And Kaneria is a specialist spinner as someone already said so that you can expect from him in every match top class effort.
Lets see how Pakistan will perform in this next 3 torunaments, but that they could have succes has everyone seen in the recent past. Certainly, the opposite is logically also possible.

And I wonder how much of an international career Saqlain Mushtaq has left.

Yeah, i think Pakistan has a luxus problem in the bowling attack...
They have there so much variations you could build of them 2 -4 bowling attack for teams...

Will be interesting to see Afridis approach to batting , considering that he has been selected as primarily a spinner this time .

Wait a minute , just realized something .Afridi wont be opening most probably if Malik is to be continued at 3 .(Farhat and Hameed might open ...Inzy and Youhana at 4 , 5 ,Younis at 6 , Afridi at 7)

how a talent like asim kamal continues to miss out is just amazing let alone the inclusion of rana naveedul hassan who couldnt get rikki clarke out if he batted with a baseball bat.

Hm yeah this is one pssibility, but it could also be Yasir Hameed and Salman Butt.
Shoaib could also come at Nr. 4 and Afridi comes on Nr 3, since on this position he has his best average.
For Afridi and Salman Butt could rest Imran Farhat and Shabbir Ahmed/Younis Khan.
So that Pakistan has 2 Fast bowlers (Sami and Shoaib). 1 leg spinner and 1 off spinner (Shoaib Malik and Afridi) and one medium fast bowler (razzaq).
And if Shabbir also play, they have 3 good bowler and 3 allrounder..
But this will be at Inzi and Woolmer, how they will play.
