“The players can criticise my cricket ball. Can I criticise them for the bad shot or the bad ball? Long hop. You know what I mean? You’ve got to be sensible,
LOL what kind of response is that?

Just saw the KL drop. Went fast and at an awkward armpit height but such a bad time and form player to let off. He better make up for it with a big hundred tomorrow.

Great to see two teams gritting out a Test Match and fighting under pressure.

Feels like a little while since we’ve had some classic throwback Test Cricket, been enjoyable.

370 was a good score from where England were, and some work still to go for India. It’s also not a bad deck and India are well capable of grinding to 450 and what would be an important 80 run lead- beautifully poised for Day 3.

What if penalties are given out session by session? Say ten runs per over behind at end of every session? Lower the number of overs to trigger the penalty - say 26 overs every two hours. So you’re supposed to bowl 30 but we will give you some leeway for certain unavoidable things and not penalize less than 26. But any number of overs below that will incur a penalty at ten runs an over.

I think something like 22 overs were bowled before lunch today? That’s crazy. A 30-40 run penalty, added to Englands total at lunch would have fixed that **** up immediately.

Really looking forward to Archer today tbh. Rate him higher than some people here seem to. Always impressed me when I've watched him bowl even when he isn't getting wickets, thought he was quite impressive in the games he played in India back in 2021 on some flattish decks for example. He might cause some real trouble with that uneven bounce, can see some drag-ons happening.
He's good. The only question is what is his body like after Root broke him.

If he stays together and bowls like he used to, he'll be very handy for England.

Tell me what they're supposed to do. Pull out a revolver and shoot someone?
Telling Gill to get his treatment off the field would be a start. No reason to hold up play when it isn't either the batsmen or bowler receiving treatment.
Not allowing Stokes to take his sweat time to get ready after receiving treatment.
Not allowing drinks or glove changes for batsmen outside of the official drinks break would also improve things.

I thought the shot clock was meant to stamp out some of this issue? If it's not then clearly a change is required.

Nothing so drastic but a fixed time cap on on-field treatment should help things along. Unsure of continuing after 3-5 mins of physio time on the ground? Go off.
And if they don't do that, what happens then?

Same with any other guidelines in places, i.e. time between overs, or consulting on fielding places, and all kinds of other gamesmanship designed to allow one's fast bowlers to go at their own leisured pace, and gain an advantage. What if they just don't?

Personally ive never had a big issue with over rates......always been in the "quality over quantity" camp. But i do think that its becoming a problem. I mean id still rather see Jof steaming in for a spell in the last session than Joe Root having to rush through 10 to make up time......but i think something must be done to speed them up.

My issue with penalties though is that the batting side can slow the game down if required just as affectively as the bowling. How do you diffirentiate and penalise the correct offenders?

Umpires need to take responsibility and push the sides on to get through their overs. Right now umpires themselves laze around and allow constant breaks. They are more than happy to officiate for less overs.

What powers do the umpires actually have to enforce on field? Thats a genuine question as i dont know.

I mean they can tell the batsmen hes gotta be ready when the bowler takes his mark, he can tell a captain to hurry the **** up with the field changes......but can the umpire do anything there and then to enforce it?
