Both very good category on their primary skill. As a bowler Kapil is equivalent of a 45+ avg batsman. Add to that The legacy he created amongst Indian pacers and he was a world record holder.

That makes them Equals in primary skills (and Kapil greater )

Now think about this,
Both scored 3 centuries against ATG bowlers ( Greenidge 1 away, Kapil 2 )

Kapil is far far greater Overall.
Kapil and Greenidge are not remotely equal in primary skills. Greenidge is easily ahead as a batsman than Kapil as a bowler.

Greenidge has one clear edge in his primary skill. Opening in test cricket is still viewed as one of the most demanding roles in Test cricket. He ranks among the top five post-war openers and that alone makes his primary skill much more valuable than Kapil’s bowling.
As openers in his era, he's behind Sunny and Barry (timelines crossed early in Gordon's pre test career)

There's a list, and quite the lengthy one that's ahead of Kapil during his test career.
