ODI Wicket Keeper Poll: Discussion

It's a very clear gap for me, not necessarily a huge one. I would say the gap between these 11 and the no 12 is significantly quite Bigger.
Yeah probably differ on that view. Sehwag, Gilly, Warner, Amla etc. is probably the next tier. Would say Rohit/Dhoni are closer to these guys than ABD/Kohli

Also Gilchrist made 12th position on our odi batting poll and Sehwag didn't make the top 40! When they are basically equalish imo. Don't get this rating.

Yeah, let's agree to disagree. Hussey/Amla/Warner/Chappell/Greenidge/Azam etc are the next tier for me; and I think Rohit is closer to Virat than Babar.

Yeah agreed. Gilchrist was too high, shan't be Top 20 imho. Would take him over Sehwag easily for the 3 WC Final knocks, especially the 149; but him being 12th was too High. And Sehwag should had made the Top 40 prolly. I though don't have him anywhere near as high as you do and think the biggest snub was of Hayden.

When I post the results and the table of stats, I will only show stats as the nominated keeper. Thus far, most of the nominated players (Gillie, Sanga, Jos, QdK) have had a few games when they weren't playing as a keeper.

As far as #5-6 batsmen go, only Dhoni, Bevan, Hussey and Symonds are better than Buttler so surely his place is well earned. And De Kock is only a moderate downgrade on Gilchrist after era adjustment. There just haven't been that many good keeper bats. Even Gilchrist's batting record is only about as good as Sehwag. Ignoring modern players, there's Flower who was a decent batter but not ATG or anything and then you have pinch hitters like Moin and Mongia. KL Rahul is a better keeper batsman than anyone who debuted before 2000 and isn't named Adam Gilchrist.
Yeah good points. Still don't think Buttler or QdK should be top 3 but you're right that competition isn't exactly fierce

Who should be then? Can only think of ABD (besides Dhoni and Gilly who are top 2)
Tbf both are top 5 or 6 at least. I would have AB dV 3rd, McCullum and alec Stewart are underrated. Shai Hope a dark horse. Sangakkara probably doesn't quite get in but is a roughy for top 5

Mccullum just too inconsistent imo to be top 3. Stewart was again decent but not quality for top 3.

I think ABD keeping for 59 Tests should really be enough for atleast the 3rd spot. Let alone him averaging 70+ back then..... Surely, Bairstow will make the Top 10 despite not keeping that often, and Klaasen will make mine too despite playing 1 more match than ABD kept wickets in, and more than half of those not as a keeper!

I see more of the part time keepers making top 10 too. There is just not much competition

Sehwag was also 10% faster and they both played in basically the same era.
So WC final performances vs being consistently faster.
IIRC the few years Gilchrist played before Sehwag became a regular (about 5 years) were right before ODIs underwent their revolution into more batting friendly affairs. It would affect their statistics in that regard. If you take Gilchrist from 2001 onwards his average and strike rate would be higher

Gilly definitely improves post that time, but still isn't faster than Sehwag
