Am shocked by high number of votes for Kohli (by far the worse test player on that list), and the low number of votes for Murali.
Kohli and ABD pretty close as test batsmen, so Kohli isn’t by far the worst test player on this list, but ya most test players on the list are better than him.

Sachin Wasim Viv the top 3

McGrath Murali round out the top 5

ABdV Kohli Warne the next tier

Pollock Hadlee round out the top 10

Plus Kohli being amongst the top 5 test batters of his generation, amongst the top 3/4 ODI bats ever and perhaps the greatest t20 bat ever is not a bad choice for greatest all format player when you consider tests, ODIs and t20s(50:30:20). But if only tests and ODIs guys like Sachin, Viv are clearly ahead.

Kohli is a bad choice at this point. He is set to be mere ATVG in tests unless he dramatically improves his output over next 3-4 years

Disagree. Let’s take the 50:30:20 model. Considering only Bradman scores a 50, Sobers. 49, then Sachin, Imran, Marshallm Viv etc 47/48, and then further classes of ATG’s down till 40, Virat should get something like 35. In ODIs, Viv scores 30/30, then Sachin, Wasim, Garner, McGrath 29, Kohli and ABD 27/28. In T20s, Kohli gets a 19 or 20/20. As per this, Kohli has points close to Viv or Sachin when you consider all formats, considering the latter and many other candidates didn’t play t20s.

True. Fair point. I also think AB's keeping/fielding = Kohli's captaincy.

McGrath , Viv and Sachin are the only 3 choices for me , I'm blunt about rating Viv ahead of Sachin but McGrath being number 1 given his flawless record even in 2000s ( when the pitches started getting flatter ) is my choice.

I would argue DeVilliars is decently ahead as a test Batsmen, a 14 run higher away average ( 55 vs 41 ) with the fact that ever since Kohli came to the international average AB averaged 57+ ( which Kohli didn't have even at his peak ).

and tbh , won't be surprised to see someone argue he is ahead in one day too ( infact , I think people would have if rain didn't wash away 2015 Semis and SA went on to become world champions under AB that year )

Batting has been more difficult in recent years since AB retired and Kohli went into a slump. There were fewer good bowlers when AB was at his peak. He had an extraordinary range to his batting though (more so than perhaps anyone except Lara).

This could be argued yea , should research Kohli's record between 2008 and AB's retirement to see how they compare , though Kohli made multiple big double hundreds against completely toothless attacks at home which I think should also be taken in consideration when comparing both , AB may have never faced the current australian trio but he also very rarely got completely weak attacks that have already mentally conceded , Kohli got those a lot.

If there wasn’t no rain in Ind-NZ semifinal, one could argue equally that Ind could have become WC champions under Kohli.
