Conditions dependent Players

Surprised nobody has mentioned Sehwag till now.
Bradman in Asia to Mike Atherton outside Asia.
He creamed Shoaib Akhtar for fours so effortlessly in Pakistan, I've never seen any touring batsman be able to that to him. Whereas on a lively pitch he can be dismissed by the medium pace of Shane Watson.

As much as we make fun of condition dependent players, they are more important than ATG players to teams chances in more than 60% of games.

Sehwag > Tendulkar, Dravid in Asia
Warner > Ponting, Smith in AUS + SA
Anderson > any visiting pacer except McGrath in Eng .
Sangakkara and Jayawardene in SSC Colombo. If both are on the crease and have reached their half centuries, the next 2 days will be long leather chase.

Oh definitely. I'm not saying that Vettori or Lyon are better than Ashwin, Jadeja, or Herath by any means. Just that they have a more consistent standard of performances across different conditions.
The role each player playing is different.

I feel 1st team has edge in Asian conditions and 2nd team in pace friendly conditions ?

Jeff Thomson

His bowling average in Australia was 24.9
In England, New Zealand and Pakistan his average was over 30 while in the West Indies it was a moderate 28.8
He obviously liked the harder, bouncier Australian wickets.

How did your extrapolation from adjacent cases to Jadeja work out in the BG trophy?
Jadeja is still a condition dependent player because he is an off spin bowler.
Outside Asian pitches he can play a good supporting role but can't be the main strike bowler.

Derek Underwood is a very bad choice, he took wickets everywhere. There’s a misconception on CW that his entire career was based on uncovered pitches.
Jeff Thomson was more reliant on pace than conditions. In 77 in England he was a yard slower than in 75, and by the the 85 tour he was pretty much fodder.

Probably you may have not seen Jayasuriya's 230 odd against Pakistan in Faisalabad. Put 100 odd for the last wicket with Fernando where the latter's contribution was <10. Took Akthar to the cleaners.

Yeah that was unbelievable knock of 253 iirc. It is there on YouTube. Absolutely smoked Akhtar
