Border-Gavaskar Trophy all time XI

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy came into being in 1996. So, no players from before that series.

Hayden
Sehwag
Smith
Tendulkar
Clarke
Laxman
Gilchrist
Gillespie
Kumble
McGrath
Bumrah

Gillespie has an excellent record in India, so gets the nod over Cummins. Bumrah vs Cummins is a judgment call. Harbhajan clearly the leading spinner of this rivalry, but he sucked so hard in Australia that Kumble gets the nod.

Clarke was amazing. The batting pretty much writes itself down.

Pujara has had two back to back series where he's played the most vital knocks to pull India out of trouble. Won a historic series in Australia with his efforts.

Dhoni > Gilchrist sounds controversial but was surprised to see gilchrist averaged only 27 vs India despite a couple of excellent innings.

Bumrah is the other questionable one because it was only one series but I can't think of an amazing alternative.

Clarke vs Pujara is not an easy call as such but Clarke was sooo much better to watch.

The One True AB plays for SA. Unless you meant The One Trick AB.

Lyon over Warne is a definite progression from extreme mediocrity to borderline mediocrity in this context, but he isn't a great shout when you have Sir RJ to pick.

A couple of astonishing hundreds notwithstanding, Gilchrist has a meh record against India. Dhoni's record against Australia isn't super impressive either. I am going with Pant.

Jadeja gives me the solidity at no.8 along with the awesomeness of a 19 average with the ball against Aus. His legacy will be written in stone once he is done.
