CLT20 Rides Roughshod Over Test Cricket

Malcolm Conn in The Daily Telegraph said:
In a sad indictment of the modern game and its lopsided priorities, Australia and South Africa will play only two Tests in a short series later this year.
...

Chief among the reasons for relegating this usually fierce competition to minor league status is the glorified domestic Champions League Twenty20 tournament in India during September and early October.
Australia v South Africa Test schedule shrinks to accomodate Twenty20 | thetelegraph.com.au
Sad.

not ideal, but i can live with it since they are adding the test to the return series. no overall loss of tests.

On the bright side it means we get a 4 Test series between Aus and SA in the future.

Which will be ****ing awesome.

(CLT20 can **** off though. Most pointless, stupid tournament in existence)

I'm not too convinced about the no overall loss of tests, or a guaranteed four tests in future. Doesn't look anything like an iron-clad commitment to me; more like a convenient sop to tide over some immediate discomfort by muting the protests against this decision.

Who knows when the CL T20 and IPL will be scheduled at some year in future when Australia tours SA again. If they were unwilling to push the CL T20 by a measly one week now (despite jointly owning 50% of it), what is the likelihood that they will do it some years from now? I'll believe it when I see it.

They should cut the 2 T20s and 3 ODIs for another test
Or move the CL T20 to start a week later than now.

Its a total disgrace in my book.

I see no need for T20 cricket in a series like this. ODI cricket to me is more a battle of who is the better team as well. And if the Champs League is ruling the schedule between two nations...what has cricket come to????

I would love future series between these 2 great rivals to be 4 tests and 5 ODI's but that won't happen.

Its also a shame that we won't be playing each other any longer at prime time of Christmas and new year. When we play test matches in Australia we will now be playing at the Gabba and Adelaide Oval instead of SCG and MCG. I would suspect we would still keep the WACA after being denied to play there in the Allan Donald era.

By the way, I thought Aus and SA were going to play more often because of the loss of the keynote Tests?

AWTA.

The ECB and CSA signed some sort of agreement in 2008 that all Test series in the future between England and South Africa would be 5 Tests.

It took a few months before one of the Tests on our last tour was dropped, though I can't remember the reasons why.

Cricket Australia are obsessed with how much money can supposedly be made from T20 cricket, so this doesn't suprise me in the slightest.

Why are CA so caught up with the T20 fad these days (Big Bash etc.)? It's like a teenager who's just discovered the joys of internet porn. Judging by the people here, it doesn't look like a particularly promising market either.

Totally useless ****.I'm fed up of this t20 garbage.First IPL tamasha, then this and finally the t20 wc every yr.Slow poisoning the game.:@:@
Should be a t20 wc evry 2 yrs.Scrap ipl and clt20.
Every tour along with tests and odis can be given a couple of t20s.THAT'S IT.
No tour with less than 3 test matches.
But of course none of this will happen since our board just loves the money and the intl stars won't object making big bucks either.
At best to hope for 2yr interval WC,scrap clt20.Reduce ipl playing time from this 2 month tamasha.:@

Bring back the days when youngsters were first tried in tests then on peroformance decided if they were worthy.

Could have still made a 3 match test series out of it. Just do away with the 4 day warm-up game which follows the 20/20s and ODIs.

Immediately after the Aus tour there is a SL tour

Aus tour:- 2 T20, 3 ODI. 2 Test. 1 FC
SL Tour:- 0 T20, 5 ODI, 3 Tests , 1 FC

Aus tour is of 40 days
SL tour is of 44 days

2 extra ODI equivalent to 2 T20 but still they are playing 1 test extra. I don't understand what time constraint is there and why can't SA fit in the extra test. It is really surprising. I think they probably want to avoid the test series

Well NZ are supposed to be touring Australia starting in mid-November so that's a pretty big constraint I'd suggest.

Has anyone ever liked the idea of a two-test "series"? Is it a comprimise if no party is satisfied?

You want less international cricket in the workload?

Fine, reduce the number of overseas tours, maybe only one per season.

Okay, you want more, but shorter tours?

Reduce or get rid of JAMODIS.

Desperately want ODIs too?

Make a tour series Test or ODI, not both.

There are so many options here and they've gone with the one that is literally enjoyed by the fewest possible people.
