Obviously a bit of a shot in the dark, but there you go that's as fair guess as any. I do think that the Pietersen captaincy will have ended by 2011, not necessarily in disgrace either. In recent times England have been exceptionally unusual in long stints from their skippers recently (Vaughan, Atherton and Hussain all captained at least 45 tests),

Yeah i'd say Broom is about ready now, just a question whether they can find him a place. But Greg Hay has been scoring very consistently aross both forms and Greg Todd has probaly the tightest technique i've seen from current batsman in NZ
Unsure there. In the List A final he looked to have a tendency to play around his front pad a bit too much. Mills was zoning in on that pad. Could have some trouble in that area.

I remember New Zealand medium-pacer Geoff Allott being timed at 94mph in 1999. Ever since then I've taken those readings with a bit of a pinch of salt.
Allott was timed several times above 90mph in the 1999 WC and the 2 Tests he played afterwards. He was certainly no out-and-out 72mph medium-pacer.

And had he not been injured he could conceivably have developed into a high-quality bowler.

Such exercises always will be - but why would you put a middle-order batsman at three and an opener at five?

Firstly, Bopara has batted at 3 and 4 for Essex this season in the county championship, and indeed batted very well there. I think he is very talented and has a good chance at being England's second best bat to debut this decade after Pietersen, so can definitely see a future for him at 3 for both tests and ODIs. And on Denly, well I was struggling to think of a middle-order player so he got shoehorned in (I have more hope for Godleman making the grade than Denly so he got preference on the openers spot). It's not infrequent that an opener will only get into the test side of his nation in the middle order (Rob Key, Mark Butcher and Mike Hussey spring to mind immediately).

I'm assuming here that Ponting and Michael Hussey will both retire around the time the 2011 World Cup wraps up, so this team is for immediately after they retire-

1.P Jaques
2.P Hughes
3.S Marsh
4.M Clarke*
5.S Watson
6.D Hussey
7.B Haddin+
8.S Smith ?? lol, could be aaanyone really.
9.B Lee
10.M Johnson
11.M Cameron

Key and Butcher both had their opening success at three, though - a position which is not notably different from opening. Hence if I were to pick those players, I'd have Denly three and Bopara five.

Haha, looks like he has all it takes to get into the England side, being born in South Africa

No overly tall for a fast bowler then....the surrey site lists him at 5'11 but cricinfo has him as 6'1
I've seen Meaker and it he wasn't much taller than myself if he was at all and I'm about 1.80m but this was last year and he may have grown a couple of inches since.

In regard to his bowling, the kid maybe young but Surrey are a complete ****house at the moment and if he was indeed bowling 90mph he would be playing for them not Chris Lewis, Alex Tudor and some other ****s. The only thing I have heard about the kid all year is that he was done by the ECB for beaming someone and doing sweet FA for the U19's.

Meeker's U19 teamates, Harris and Finn (maybe even Woakes?) are the cricketers I would be keeping my eyes on.

And he still hit 38 at over a run a ball:wacko: his style is well suited to the longer game, very impressed with his defence expect a big championship from him this season

I'm not aware of his work. Seamer one presumes?

Good batting depth there with Broad at 9.

This Aussie side that i am predicting is the one i think would be the most likely combination just after 2011 WC:

Australia Odi XI:
1.Shaun Marsh
2.Luke Ronchi (WK)
3.Shane Watson
4.Michael Clarke (C)
5.George Bailey
6.Luke Pomersbach
7.Moises Henriques
8.Mitchell Johnson
9.S.Tait
10.B.Hilfenhaus
11.Nathan Bracken
12.Some Spinner

Aussie Test XI:
1.P.Jaques
2.Shaun Marsh
3.Ricky Ponting (C) ---------> playing in his last season
4.Mike Hussey --------------> playing in his last season
5.Michael Clarke
6.Shane Watson
7.Brad Haddin (WK)
8.Some Spinner, maybe Casson
9.Brett Lee
10.Ben Hilfenhaus
11.Doug Bollinger/ Mitchell Johnson/ Shaun Tait
12.Adam Voges

I quite like that team, though I do hope Oram is still around then, which unfortunately bumps Anderson, but Oram is a top player so I hope we have him available as long as possible.

Mills will probably have that last spot, and bat ahead of Southee too probably.

I'll have a go.

Tests

Jamie How
Martin Guptill
Peter Fulton
Jesse Ryder
Ross Taylor
Brendan McCullum
Jacob Oram
James Franklin
Dan the Man
Kyle Mills
Tim Southee/Trent Boult/Iain O'Brien/al the other nearlies.

I predict Flynn, Hay, Myburgh, Anderson, Broom amongst others to be on the fringes.

ODIs

Ryder
McCullum
How
Taylor
Styris/Fulton
Oram
Elliott
Franklin
Mills
Vettori
Southee

I love Elliott, he's gonna be the next best thing to Chris Harris imo. Doesn't look much but he's proven to be a real pain in the arse so far and shut me up when I blasted the selectors for picking him for ODIs. The same fringe players to be floating around, being fringe players.

Middlesex and highly rated. Last summer on Sky I watched him bowl against Pakistan for the U-19s and was impressed. He is very, very tall and showed good control and bounce. Didn't see him get much movement, and whilst he was quick he wasn't lightning (bowled around 80-84 mph IIRC) but he is still only 19 so I think his pace will improve naturally as he gets stronger and bulks up. He has already played quite a bit for Middlesex and has a decent record considering his age.

Surprised you haven't heard of him actually. He is one always brought up when it comes to England players for the future, both on this forum and in the media. Bob Willis for one is always banging on about him!

In the context of that game (Eden Park outer Oval+flat pitch=massacre) he should be expected to score at a run a ball. Both sides scored 300+ and there were some classy bowlers in there too (Martin and Mills for a start). I'm not saying he's poor, he's quite a good player but at this stage he's borderline for me. He also has alot of middle order batsmen ahead of him.

Northeast'll still only be, what, 21 in 2011? Maybe 22. And I do hope Davies, if good enough to play, will be good enough to bat above Rashid who, while probably more batsman than bowler, is not an out-and-out specialist bat at county level, never mind international.

Norwood's on Fire
If Broad is in the side in 2011 I reckon he'll be batting no lower than 7, as an all-rounder

Yeah i'm not convinced about his one-day game but reckon he's a quality bat in the longer form
